Simultaneous raids against Modi critics in (at least) Delhi and Mumbai.
In Delhi: Bhasha Singh and Prabir Purkayastha of the NewsClick. Also cultural activist Suhail Hashmi.
In Mumbai: Teesta Setalvad.
Perhaps, NIA and Delhi Police both are involved. At least, in Mumbai, it's Delhi Police.

Dear Sati ji,

As it appears, this time it's promising to be far more serious.

As far as Teesta Setalvad is concerned, it's a fresh case and there can't be any SC directive as regards this.

What's of essence is that the alleged "Chinese funding" for NewsClick is going to be milked in a very big way, as it appears.
Quite likely, the INDIA alliance will also be implicated and tried to be put on the defensive. For that one hasvto only keep screaming. Any proof is an additional bonus.
As a side benefit, the confiscation of the electronic communication devices would put the owners largely out of action. And if detained, one'll be completely out of action.

Modi himself did it in a Gujarat state poll. The one before the last.
Even Manmohan Singh personally was alleged to be a key conspirator together with Pak trying to plant Ahmed Patel as the Gujarat Chief Minister.
Planting of incriminating documents/evidences, in one or more devices, may very well be in the pipeline.
Technology has advanced further.
Stakes involved are far higher.

The funding issue itself has two distinctly different dimensions: ethical and legal.
In any case, the concerned NYT report (ref.: 'A Global Web of Chinese Propaganda Leads to a U.S. Tech Mogul' at <https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/05/world/europe/neville-roy-singham-china-propaganda.html>) refers to NewsClick rather fleetingly:
I. The authorities in India raided a news organization tied to (American millionaire) Mr. (Neville Roy) Singham [with strong Chinese connections and deeply engaged in helping promote Chinese points of view across the globe] during a crackdown on the press, accusing it of having ties to the Chinese government but offering no proof.
II. In New Delhi, corporate filings show, Mr. Singham’s network financed a news site, NewsClick, that sprinkled its coverage with Chinese government talking points. “China’s history continues to inspire the working classes,” one video said.
On the face of it, the most serious crime committed by NewsClick is to make and air a video that says: China’s history continues to inspire the working classes.
(The report, however, deals with Vijay Prashad led "Massachusetts-based think tank Tricontinental" at some length.)

Now, the most important question to be asked is what's the charge???
I. Receipt of money via illegitimate channel(s)?
II. Doing something illegal with legal or illegal funds?
No answer is available as yet.

Here, it bears recalling that the report was carried on August 5 and based on that a tendentious and, in fact, ridiculous charge (ref.: <https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/chaos-in-lok-sabha-over-nyt-report-bjp-mps-nishikant-dubey-anurag-thakur-accuse-congress-of-chinese-links-101691395275852.html>) was hurled by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey --  on the floor of the parliament on August 7th, targeting Rahul Gandhi and also other unrelated journalists.
The charge, btw, was stoutly rejected by the NewsClick editor and public support would soon pour in for him: <https://www.telegraphindia.com/india/nyt-report-does-not-allege-any-violation-of-law-newsclick-gets-citizens-support/cid/1959701>.

At any rate, the raids on a host of people having some NewsClick connections -- even flimsiest -- are clearly disproportionate to any legitimate purpose and, even more significantly, of a piece with the track record of the regime of stifling independent voices in the media by all whatever means.
Deserves a robust rebuff.
The journalists' organisations must play their roles.
