Subject: Socialist Party (India) supports the proposed protest on 20 July at Jantar Mantar and your demand for restoration of full statehood for J&K.

 

Respected Omar Sahab,

Socialist Party (India) wholeheartedly supports your proposed protest on 20 July, 2026 at Jantar Mantar, Delhi to demand restoration of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. It is a long overdue demand and must be immediately met. Some of our members will also be physically present during the protest.

Socialist Party (India) also believes that Article 370 must also be restored for J&K and the same status should be accorded to other states as well, as this will be a right step in the direction of decentralisation of political decision making, which should be welcome in any federal democracy.

Socialist Party (India) may soon organise a march from Jammu to Srinagar in support of the above-mentioned demands. We may also organise a similar march from Kargil to Leh in support of the demands of movement in Ladakh for restoration of full statehood, a dedicated legislature and inclusion of Ladakh in Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

We hope that J&K and Ladakh would soon enjoy the same status as other states do in the Indian democracy.

Article 370 should not be restored. Decades of terrorism and violence in Jammu & Kashmir have caused immense suffering, with thousands of civilians, security personnel, and families paying the price. While people may hold different political views, the priority should be peace, security, stability, and the well-being of ordinary citizens.

Article 370 should not be restored. Before demanding its return, ask the families who lost their loved ones to decades of terrorism, violence, and instability in Jammu & Kashmir what they endured. Thousands of civilians and security personnel paid the ultimate price.

You may support the restoration of Article 370—that is your political right. But do not ignore the human cost of the conflict. For me, peace, security, development, and equal rights for all citizens come before political symbolism. The real question is not what sounds good politically, but what helps ensure a safer and more stable future for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
