Press Note
New Delhi– The Socialist Party (India), Secretary General, Sandeen Pandey has strongly condemned the life imprisonment handed down by the NIA special court to senior Hurriyat leader Aasiya Andrabi, and the 30-year prison sentences given to Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen. He termed these sentences a blatant violation of the requirements of justice, international law, and fundamental human rights.
In a media statement, Sandeep Panday said that these decisions not only reflect political vendetta but are a continuation of India's organized state oppression, judicial exploitation, and human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that implicating Kashmiri leadership in false and fabricated cases to award lengthy sentences is a failed attempt to suppress the Kashmiri people's legitimate, peaceful struggle for their political rights.
He asserted that the Indian judiciary has failed to maintain an impartial role regarding Jammu and Kashmir and often acts as an instrument of the state narrative. The sentences against Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi, and Nahida Nasreen prove that India wants to criminalize dissent and silence the Kashmiri leadership. Sandeep Panday emphasized that history bears witness that tactics of force, arrests, and imprisonment have neither dampened the morale of the Kashmiri people nor stopped their struggle.
Sandeep Pandey also questioned the illegal detention of close to 2,500 residents of J&K in connection with the Pahalgam terrorist attack when the Home Minister has already claimed in Parliament that those responsible for carrying out the attack have been killed as part of Operation Mahadev in July 2025 by the Indian security forces. Also, over a hundred people have been detained for participating in mourning gatherings after the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei. All these must be released immediately.
