Socialist Party (India) launches the Green Party
Due to attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, the world is facing an oil crisis. However, India’s situation has become quite peculiar. Earlier, the United States imposed penalties on India for purchasing oil from Russia and then pressured India to reduce such purchases. Now that a global oil crisis has emerged, the United States has permitted India to buy oil from Russia again. Russia is currently offering discounts on oil sales to Pakistan, but not to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has caused international embarrassment to India in a way no previous Prime Minister has.
There was once a Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, who during the 1965 war between India and Pakistan—when the United States was supplying wheat to India under the PL-480 agreement to address food shortages but was supporting Pakistan—appealed to the citizens to give up one meal a day. In contrast, Narendra Modi has bowed before the United States, allegedly to facilitate Mukesh Ambani in setting up an oil refinery in America.
Therefore, the Socialist Party (India), on the occasion of Bhagat Singh’s martyrdom day and Ram Manohar Lohia’s birth anniversary, announces the launch of the Green Party and appeals to the citizens to reduce the use of petroleum products and help India overcome the current situation of international embarrassment.
People are urged to avoid using private petrol and diesel vehicles and instead use public transport or non-fossil-fuel-based vehicles. The government should strengthen public transportation systems. For cooking, alternatives to LPG, such as solar energy, should be explored. To reduce pollution, the use of electricity and air conditioning should be minimized or avoided. The ongoing war is also impacting climate change. The war should be stopped immediately, and steps should be taken to ensure that no such conflicts occur in the future.
Today, the Green Party will be launched with a bicycle rally starting from Firangi Mahal at Chowk—where Mahatma Gandhi once stayed during a visit to Lucknow—up to the memorial of Acharya Narendra Dev on the banks of the Gomti River, followed by the planting of 25 saplings. The Green Party is as committed to environmental protection as it is to establishing justice and safeguarding human rights worldwide.
On this occasion, State President Salahuddin Shibu said that socialist ideology is the need of the hour, and continuous struggle against communalism, casteism, regionalism, and gender discrimination will be a true tribute to Ram Manohar Lohia on his 116th birth anniversary.
