This is a worthwhile petition that I am forwarding. Placing Assata Shakur on the FBI's "Most Wanted Terrorist List" forty years after her trial, when the concept of "terrorist," much less a "war against terrorism" did not exist, thirty four years after he escape to Cuba, a country that the U.S. has blockaded since 1960, and has sponsored untold acts of what the world now considers terrorism since then, including many failed assassination attempts against  Fidel Castro, not to mention the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion of the Cuba and the Cuban Missile Crisis, which almost led to a a nuclear WWIII, would be comical if it were not so sinister.  The Obama administration should be told that this act is a kind of homage to the memory of J. Edgar Hoover, who if he were still alive would probably be plotting to overthrow President Obama

Thank you for signing the petition to remove Assata Shakur from the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List. We really appreciate your support.

While the number of signatures continues to grow, we still have a long way to go to get a response from the President, Attorney General and other decision makers. For example, petitions submitted through the White House official petition website (We the People https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/), must reach 100,00 signatures in 30 days in order to be guaranteed a reply!

Here are ways you can help get more signatures and keep the pressure on the President and the Attorney General to respond and take action:

1) In recognition of the 40 years since the incident on the New Jersey turnpike that ultimately led to Assata Shakur’s exile, try to recruit 40 people or as many as you can, to sign the petition, and ask them to recruit as many as they can, and so on. You can use this shortened url in your emails or on social media http://tinyurl.com/ASSATA-OFF-FBI-LIST

2) Host a teach-in on Assata Shakur in your community and register your event at the official Assata Teach-In site, http://assatateachin.com/teach-ins/. Curriculum materials and many other valuable resources are available for your use on the website. A list of planned events is also available on this website.

3) Create a poster that reprises the message that “Assata is STILL Welcome Here” and e-mail (as PDF or jpeg documents) by July 1st 2013 (in time for Assata’s birthday which is on July 16th). All submission will be posted on the Assata Teach-In site and we hope that supporters will mark Assata’s birthday by circulating the images on social media. All poster submissions can be emailed to policevio...@gmail.com

4) Continue to educate yourself and others on Assata Shakur by visiting the web forum created by The Feminist Wire http://thefeministwire.com/tag/assata-shakur/

5) Use social media to promote the petition and teach-in movement! Artist Alixa Garcia of Climbing PoeTree is creating an image a day for 365 days in honor of Assata at http://ariseforassataproject.tumblr.com/. Use one of her images to draw attention to your posts! Use Twitter hashtag #assatateachin

Thanks again for all you do!

Signed,
Ad Hoc Assata Shakur Committee
