 Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Psychology

 

The Department of Psychology in the School of Education, Social Work and Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is seeking to hire a 9-month, benefit-eligible, tenure-track Assistant Professor (open area) to begin on August 15, 2023. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for excellence in research, be able to teach graduate Advanced Biopsychology and undergraduate Brain & Behavior courses, and contribute to our PhD program in clinical psychology. This hire is in alignment with UMKC’s initiative in data science. We seek candidates with an interest in data science and/or computational methods (broadly defined) as applied to important psychological, health, and/or social issues.  

 

Areas of specialization and research interest are open and may include, but are not limited to: any area in psychology (e.g., cognitive, clinical, social, developmental, health, counseling), cognitive, decision or computational neuroscience, cognitive science, data science, and/or neuropsychology. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for excellence in research and dedication to undergraduate and graduate teaching. We especially invite applicants who demonstrate a commitment to increasing access and diversity in higher education, graduate training, and/or research.

 

Successful candidates will be expected to maintain a record of publication, seek and secure external funding as needed for sustained research productivity, and teach courses in Advanced Biopsychology (graduate) and Brain & Behavior (undergraduate) as well as their area of specialization. In addition, successful candidates will provide service commensurate with the Assistant Professor rank. The candidate will participate in our department’s mission to incorporate diversity and multiculturalism into graduate training and research, and will provide high-quality teaching and mentoring to a diverse group of students. 

 

The Department of Psychology will be merging with the Department of Counseling and Counseling Psychology in Fall 2023. Together, the new Department of Psychology and Counseling will serve approximately 400 undergraduate majors and will offer a master’s program in counseling (MPCAC-accredited) serving 130 students as well as a Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology (APA-accredited). The combined Department will consist of 16 faculty members who actively collaborate with diverse clinical, medical, and community partners across the campus, region, and nation. Our institution’s recently established Health Equity Institute and a current university initiative in data sciences, including the Institute for Data Education, Analytics and Science, offer faculty an exciting environment for collaborative, interdisciplinary research. Minimum qualifications: Candidates should (1) hold a Ph.D. in any area of Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, or a closely related field (Ph.D. must be awarded by September 1, 2023) and (2) have expertise and skill in data science and/or computational methods as applied to the analysis of psychological or neural data.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS – UNC CHAPEL HILL


We are seeking up to 2 postdoctoral researchers in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at UNC Chapel Hill to work in a new research center co-directed by Drs. Eva Telzer and Mitch Prinstein studying the role of technology and social media on adolescent development. We specifically are looking for PhD-level researchers with excellent analytic skills who are interested in gaining training using a unique dataset that combines theories and methods in developmental psychology (longitudinal fMRI data), social psychology (emotional processing, social interactions), and health behaviors (health risk behaviors, internalizing and externalizing disorders). The ideal applicant will have experience analyzing fMRI data, a strong publication record, experience with social or developmental neuroscience methods, and/or an interest in adolescent interpersonal experiences, psychological symptoms, and digital media.

 

The applicant must have a PhD in Psychology (Developmental, Clinical, or Social Psychology, for instance), Neuroscience, or related field by the time the position begins. The position also includes opportunities for professional development and unique interdisciplinary training that will be useful for a variety of academic career paths. 

 

Positions begin Summer 2023.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at UNC Chapel Hill. We specifically are looking for PhD-level researchers with excellent study management and analytic skills who are interested in the role of peers, social media, and the developing brain. We collect data using diverse methods, including longitudinal fMRI and fNIRS, experimental social interaction tasks, ecological momentary assessments, and self-report measures of health behaviors (substance use, health risk behaviors, internalizing and externalizing disorders) and character development (e.g., prosocial behaviors, self-control, generosity). The ideal applicant will have substantive interest in the role of peers, media, and the brain on development, a strong publication record, and experience with social or developmental neuroscience methods. The applicant must have a PhD in Psychology (Developmental, Clinical, or Social Psychology, for instance), Neuroscience, or related field by the time the position begins.  The position also includes opportunities for professional development and unique interdisciplinary training that will be useful for a variety of academic career paths. The applicant will work closely within the Winston Center under the mentorship of Drs. Eva Telzer, Kaitlyn Burnell, and Mitch Prinstein, with opportunities to work with other faculty in the Center and across the Psychology and Neuroscience Department.
