Hi all

The Pain Science and Mind-Body Medicine program, co-located in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and in the Chronic Pain and Wellness Center at the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System, is seeking to fill a research specialist position focused on chronic pain, its treatment, and underlying psychological and brain mechanisms. This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of a novel psychological treatment paradigm aiming to provide substantial relief from chronic pain. Primary responsibilities include assistance with a large clinical trial using natural language, daily experience sampling, and audio-video recordings to investigate the mechanisms of mind body treatments for chronic pain. Additional research opportunities include fMRI neuroimaging investigations of brain pathways supporting nociceptive vs. nociplastic pain, of how pain and emotion engage overlapping brain pathways, research on interoceptive function and chronic pain, opioid tapering interventions, brain mechanisms of cannabis-based pain relief, and psychedelic-based therapies. There will be opportunities to contribute to data analyses, manuscript preparation, and conference submissions. The research specialist will work closely with Dr. Yoni Ashar and Dr. Joseph Frank, as part of a growing interdisciplinary integrated research and clinical team. Applicants are welcome to work in-person or hybrid in-person/remote and must be on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus weekly. This would be an excellent opportunity for candidates considering applications to graduate training in medicine, psychology, neuroscience, or related fields, or for those seeking a longer-term research position.
