We are pleased to inform you that the Department of Social Work, School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (SSBS), will be hosting a prestigious ICSSR-sponsored Two-Day National Seminar on “Exploring the Future of Indian Democracy: One Nation, One Election and Its Implications for Governance and Federalism toward a Vibrant Bharat”
📅 Dates: August 28 & 29, 2025 (Thursday & Friday)
📍 Venue: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Arasampalayam , Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
This seminar seeks to provide a critical and constructive dialogue on the “One Nation, One Election” (ONOE) initiative—an emerging paradigm in India’s democratic landscape. Eminent scholars, policymakers, legal experts, political scientists, and practitioners will come together to explore its governance, legal, economic, and federal implications.

Objectives of the Seminar :

1. To assess the governance and economic advantages of ONOE in relation to India's developmental objectives.
2. To examine the impact of ONOE on federalism, regional autonomy, and political diversity.
3. To analyse the voter behaviour in Concurrent Elections and Its Implications for Political Engagement.
4. To assess the legal, constitutional, and practical impediments to the implementation of ONOE.
5. To propose a strategic plan for the Sustainable Implementation of ONOE in Accordance with India's Democratic and Developmental Aspirations.

Themes and Sub themes
 Theme 1: Governance and Administrative Efficiency
This theme highlights the comprehensive influence of synchronised elections on government and administrative procedures.
 
Subthemes
  1. Mitigating the policy paralysis induced by staggered electoral cycles.

  2. Examining administrative improvements that would implement simultaneous elections.
Theme 2: Federalism and Political Diversity
This theme examines the ramifications of ONOE on India's federal system and its political plurality.
Subthemes
  1. Reconciling centralisation with state autonomy within coordinated electoral cycles.
  2. The impact of ONOE on the importance and role of regional political parties.
Theme 3: Economic and Developmental Perspectives
This theme examines the economic implications of ONOE, connecting electoral changes to sustainable development.
Subthemes
  1. Cost-benefit study of the implementation of ONOE in a federal democracy.
  2. The fiscal ramifications for political entities and electoral campaigns.
Theme 4: Electorate Conduct and Civic Engagement
It illustrates the impact of coordinated elections on voter turnout and democratic procedures.
Theme 5: Legal, Constitutional, and Logistical Obstacles
This theme examines the structural barriers and organisational changes required for the successful execution of ONOE.
Submission Guidelines & Publication Opportunity:
Selected papers from the conference will be considered for publication in reputed Scopus-indexed journals, aligned with our ongoing communication with Asian Politics & Policy (Q2), and Journal of Policy & Governance (Q4). Full papers must be original, 3,500–6,000 words, and follow APA or journal-specific formats. Authors may also be invited to contribute to an edited volume with ISBN. Every submission will undergo a double-blind review to ensure academic quality and integrity. This is a unique opportunity to publish in internationally recognized platforms through a rigorous yet supportive academic process. We will share the detailed submission guidelines shortly.
