  Somalia-like situation of Malnourished children of Paudi Bhuyan Primitive Tribal Community of Sundaragarh district, Odisha, exposed  by Fact-finding Team  of Right to Food Campaign, Odisha

 

Dear friends

A 3-member Fact-finding Team of Right to Food Campaign, Odisha had made visit to Lahunipada Block of Sundargarh district on 13^th and 14^th May, 2013 to monitor implementation of food security programme. The Team got terribly disturbed having seen a number of tribal children suffering from malnutrition and waiting to die.  The situation has   become grim due to complete failure of ICDS programme and health service.  The callous attitude of Govt. officials has   led to aggravating the situation.  Anganwadi workers hardly visit the centre. Rotten Chhatua is given to the children.  Paudi Bhuyan Development Authority, a central sponsored programme under tribal sub-plan has been working since 1979 for holistic development Paudi Bhuyan in this Block. But it has failed to ensure nutritious food to the tribals.   The team has given a lot of recommendations to State Govt.  to take steps  on war-footing way  to save  the  children  from death trap.  The Details of the Report is attached herewith for your reference.
