Job Description
The Director of the Geriatric Career Development Program (GCD) directs
all aspects of the GCD program for the Bronx and Manhattan divisions
of the Jewish Home Lifecare system.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Sets the strategic vision and specific and measureable goals for a
3-year college prep and career development program geared towards at
risk high school students.
2. Supervises and coaches the GCD team employees. Provides day to day
leadership for the program.
3. Leads the development of curricula to support college prep, high
school graduation, healthcare certification, alumni programming and
college supports.
4. Develops and maintains relationships with key strategic partners in
the education, career development, intergenerational programming,
college support and youth development fields.
5. Builds relationships with school-based partners and ensures student
enrollment of 180 students and overall student retention of greater
than 90% year to year. Alumni program retention will be 90% for the
first year post high school.
6. Ensures that the GCD program goals and program components are
connected to, and are understood by JHL Senior Management and clinical
leadership. Represents GCD at internal JHL meetings, such as
Department Head Meetings and Management Retreats.
7. Builds and manages relationships with program funders, writes and
edits funder reports, and has experience requesting funds from
individuals and foundations, as well as grants management.
8. Responsible for budget development and management, as well as
monthly budget reconciliation and spending reports.
9. Serves as the staff liaison for the GCD Advisory Group. Prepares
meetings and educational materials, structures agendas and provides
follow up for this group.
10. Leads parent literacy component to ensure that GCD parents are
educated about college, healthcare careers and issues affecting at
risk youth, such as teenage pregnancy, drugs and gangs.
11. Hires and provides oversight to program consultants as needed.
Skills/Requirements
1. Bachelors Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred. Background
and training in Social Work, Education, Student Counseling,
Psychology, Human Resources or other related field preferred. Minimum
2 to 5 years of supervisory experience. Candidates bilingual in
Spanish preferred.
2. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Impeccable writing
skills and the ability to analysis and synthesize research data.
Ability to prepare and delivery high level presentations.
3. Proven track record in fundraising and grants management.
4. Experience working with at-risk youth.
