Hi Friends,

Hope you all are doing well and I'm sorry its been so long since we've been in contact! February was a crazy month and it just seemed to fly by!

I wanted to share some prayer requests with you:

- Jessica Fasnacht is having surgery to repair a torn ACL on next Friday, March 9th. Please pray for a successful surgery and strength and encouragement for the recovery process.

- Kelcey Hix may be having her little baby boy any day/week now! Please pray for a smooth and safe delivery and lots of great bonding time (and rest!) for the Hix family.

If you'd like to brainstorm on how support and encourage Jessica and Kelcey please feel free to email me directly (katie.e....@gmail.com) as I have some ideas;)

Also, a service opportunity is listed below. I participated last year and it was a lot of fun and a really great program- the kids are great. Feel free to email me if you have any questions or to email Shoba if you are interested in participating.

The Bowery Mission Kids with a Promise Leadership Academy Program is hosting a career day for kids in the program on Saturday March 31, 2012; and is looking for a wide range of careers to be represented by dynamic, engaging people. You don’t necessarily have to have an interesting job; you simply need to make your presentation interesting. Bringing sample products, or having the kids engage in a quick activity or role-playing or similar illustration always elicits their interest. Otherwise, pairs of eyes will be staring you down. I say that for information purposes only, not to scare you away.

Time commitment: 9:15am – 12:00 noon.
Location: Norman Thomas High School, 111 East 33rd Street, 6th Floor New York, NY 10016.

In particular, they are looking for individuals who would fit “The Interests” list based on an assessment our High School kids took – (i) Realistic (ii) Investigative (iii) Artistic (iv) Social (v) Enterprising and (vi) Conventional

Attached are:
(a) a career day occupation sheet defining the above listed Interests;
(b) General info on the Bowery Mission Kids with a Promise Program - Kids With a Promise One Pager;
(c) General Info for career day presenters; and
(d) Career day presenter form

If you, or someone you know, will like to participate, please let me know by March 9th; and respond with the Career day presenter form filled out. The more people that volunteer to participate, the larger the pool will be from which the Program Leaders can select the final panelists.

For those who came out last year – your presence was much appreciated. We hope to hear from you again this year.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help and for taking the time.

Thanks Joe and Chad,

Just to give the group a quick summary/update on what is going on (Joe posted a link to my sisters blog):

My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few weeks ago. It is the most aggressive kind and the tumor is quite large and in some sensitive parts of her body- rendering an operation (the best treatment option) impossible at this point. Currently, the plan is to begin chemo in hopes that it will shrink the tumor to an operable size. We will know in about 6 weeks if the tumor is responding.

Jeremy and I are expecting our first baby (a boy) around that time so you can imagine this is a bittersweet time for our family.

We would so appreciate your prayers for my mom, our family, and the baby and I as we walk with God through this time.

Lots of love,

Katie
