HI all
How do you deal with contact from people between surgeries?
For me, there are three broad types:
A - Contact with people you've helped - follow up links and questions. Generally, this is OK, but I encourage people to both come back to the next surgery and seek other channels (Wordpress? Then try the Manchester Wordpress User Group)
B - People emailing to say they can't make the surgery, but could I/we "contact them to discuss their social media"... For me this is always a polite No, and a link to the next upcoming surgery. I do four hours a month of surgeries as a volunteer - that's it folks! Generally, people come along.
C - People who want to get more formal training/advice/consultancy, and have a budget. This isn't something I do in particular, but have referred people to some relevant courses when I see this. It'd be great to build up a list of trainers (and also online tutorials) with fellow Surgery Hosts. Maybe start at
https://socialsourcecommons.org/ ?
B and C could be related, although I get the impression that type B people initially interpret Social Media Surgeries as free unlimited advice...
Thanks!
Steven
