Hi everyone

Last question from me this week, honest!

I'm wondering about the thorny issue of eligibility to attend Social Media Surgeries.

For example, I've noticed at some surgeries we've had University departments turn up.  Whilst they may have an interesting focus, they are ultimately taking time and resource away from the unfunded community group.

It's a difficult one, but perhaps something to keep an eye on.  By no means can we force people through an application process to come to a surgery (that'd be against all that it stands for!), but perhaps being more explicit about who they are aimed at is a need?

I'm just wondering if taking a look at the criteria for something like Google Grants might provide a clue: http://www.google.co.uk/grants/details.html#eligibility

Maybe you've got this sorted.  Please share!

Thanks

Steven

Hmmm....

The basic eligibility requirements are laid out clearly by the Goog. I think a tweak to say something like "because of the huge demand for social media surgery support we prioritize our primary audience of charitable nonprofits with a budget under $amount here. However, all are welcome to participate."

================

Eligibility

  • To be eligible for the Google Grants program, organizations must:
    • Hold current and valid charity status; and
    • Acknowledge and agree to the application's required certifications regarding nondiscrimination and donation receipt and use.
  • Please note that the following organizations are not eligible for Google Grants:
    • Governmental entities and organizations
    • Hospitals and medical groups
    • Schools, childcare centers, academic institutions, and universities (philanthropic arms of educational organizations are eligible). To learn more about Google's programs for educational institutions, visit Google in Education.
    • Political parties, political organizations, and lobbying groups
  • Google reserves the right to grant or deny an organization's application or participation at any time, for any reason, and to supplement or amend these eligibility guidelines at any time. Selections are made at Google's sole discretion, and are not subject to external review.
