Deputy Research Director

Position/Role:  

Our Deputy Research Director is a key member of the research team, supporting the Research Director and overseeing the work of other members of the research department. The Deputy Research Director will take the lead on rapid response projects as well as long and medium-term research projects. 

We are looking for someone with strong research skills, attention to detail, who is a responsive, passionate and determined worker with a creative approach to identifying research opportunities, and who has experience working in a fast-paced environment that requires accurate work on tight deadlines. The Deputy Research Director will manage a dynamic and cohesive team. We are looking for candidates who are excited about managing people and looking to grow their management skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support the Research Director and manage the work of other members of the Research team 
  • Conduct research using public records, news clips, campaign finance reports, travel records, disclosures, and research databases to create cohesive narratives for campaign earned and paid media 
  • Create rapid response documents on tight timelines with precision and attention to detail
  • Contribute to content approvals, vetting, and opposition research programs including directing other staff in the research department 
  • Participate in fact checks and approvals on campaign materials to assess political risk

Skills: 

  • Experience with one or more campaign cycles, senatorial preferred
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to manage up and down while prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, working with deputies in other departments
  • Sharp political instincts 
  • A desire to hone management skills in a dynamic, active department 
  • Discretion and sound judgment when dealing with sensitive information 

 Expected Outcomes: 

  • The Deputy Research Director will be a key member of the team, and partner for the Research Director, assisting with long-term projects and day-to-day management of departmental activities and staff 
  • The ideal applicant is a self-starter who can proactively solve problems and provide a high level of precision and detail in their work
  • The DRD will be managing other researchers and should seek to hone their management skills throughout the cycle

Logistics:

  • Level: Deputy
  • Salary: $6,600 per month
  • Location: Phoenix, AZ 
  • Benefits: Eligible for UnitedHealthcare medical, dental, vision plan at no premium 
  • Leave: 6 days of vacation in the first 6 months, additional days accrued after 6 months, reasonable sick leave, bereavement, and paid holidays
  • Hours: This position’s schedule will vary based on the needs of the campaign and point in the cycle, and is likely to require evening and weekend work over the course of the election cycle.
