We work in Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, Tokyo and Hyderabad, collaborating with Product Managers and Engineering to deliver simple solutions to the real-world problems that job seekers and employers face hiring and getting hired. Most importantly, our team is encouraged to deliver results, and be able to demonstrate the impact our changes have on our business.The salary range below represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include quarterly bonuses, Long Term Incentive Plan units, an open Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
Remote and Austin-Based Salary Range: 93,000 - 135,000 USD per year
The Job
Indeed is looking for a behavioral scientist to join our growing behavioral science team within UX Research. In this role, you will apply existing behavioral science principles to our employer-facing products and discover new insights through rapid, rigorous research, prototyping, and testing. You will drive recommendations for behavioral change in our product and service offerings.Your work will positively impact millions of job seekers looking for their next opportunity. Help us advance our efforts to improve and simplify the hiring process for job seekers and employers.- Build relationships with product and UX partners to bring behavioral science perspective and methods to product strategy, product design, and program design.
- Identify opportunities for behavioral interventions and areas of investigation by conducting behavioral diagnosis
- Lead definition, discovery, diagnosis of user behaviors with researchers, analysts, and functional leads in order to prioritize opportunities, themes, and initiatives for product teams.
- Test and validate hypotheses about user behaviors through quantitative and qualitative research in partnership with UX research (e.g. surveys, data analysis, qualitative interviews).
- Translate abstract behavioral insights into concrete recommendations for non-technical audiences.
- Help product teams define key user behaviors, set success metrics, formulate hypotheses, design experiments, and analyze results
- Build and deliver insightful and practical reports to key collaborators with project findings and recommendations.
- Socialize and teach behavioral science concepts and frameworks to teams through presentations, workshops, and forms of knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Analyze data and present findings to help collaborators understand complex customer challenges and generate areas of inquiry and opportunity.
- Conduct efficient literature reviews to identify relevant behavioral science theories, concepts, and methods to apply to a problem space.
About You
Primary qualifications- Demonstrated ability applying behavioral science methodologies in solving real-world customer challenges in a business, nonprofit, or government context
- Expertise in behavioral science theories and concepts
- Experience leading primary and secondary research (i.e. context audits, surveys, interviews, literature reviews, data analysis)
- Expertise in experimental design and methods from A/B tests to multi-method behavioral science experiments, including field experiments
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively influence and communicate across all levels of management
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment
- Comfort working within ambiguous problem spaces and collaborating with team to clarify objectives, hypotheses, and scope
- Proficiency in a statistical package (R, Stata, or Python) and SQL
- Proficiency in applied statistical methodologies including power analysis, parametric and non-parametric tests
Preferred qualifications- PhD or Master’s degree in Behavioral Science/Economics, Cognitive Science, Behavioral Psychology, Statistics, Public Administration, Business, Social Science, or another related field or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with significant practical and proven experience in the application of behavioral science (Required if not authorized to work in the U.S.)
- Experience applying behavioral science concepts in applicable fields: recruiting, human resources, organizational theory, two-sided marketplaces, or digital products
- Proficiency in partnering with product teams (e.g. product managers, engineers, product scientists), as well as quantitative/qualitative researchers, UX designers, and data scientists to share behavioral science insights and analyze test results
- Experience with survey design and analysis (specifically for the purposes of experimental and quantitative analysis)
