Overview: 

SEED SPOT is looking for a Director of Marketing and Communications to (1) lead the development of a comprehensive and coherent marketing strategy, (2) translate the strategy into a corresponding set of time bound activities and milestones, and (3) execute the day-to-day marketing plan to meet and exceed the correlated goals around entrepreneur recruitment, partnership development, and increased awareness of SEED SPOT’s brand and core values. We are looking for a leader who is ready to hit the ground running on day one as a core member of a small but mighty team.

The ideal candidate will be excited to build a marketing strategy and presence from the ground up with very clear goals for recruitment and conversion by leveraging an established brand that’s on the cutting edge of impact-driven entrepreneurship. This individual will be the primary marketing lead on the team and will be responsible for managing outcomes in a growing organization. 

Key Job Functions: 

  • Develop org-wide marketing and communications strategy 
  • Content creation and promotion
  • Build and maintain the recruitment funnel pipeline
  • Grow and maintain the ecosystem of partners and peer organizations

Key Performance Indicators: 

From Day One, this individual will be:

  • Obsessed with the recruitment of entrepreneurs for SEED SPOT’s signature programs: 
    • Impact Accelerator (roughly 100 applications per quarterly cycle) 
    • 2-Day Launch Camp (roughly 20 registrations per quarterly event) 
  • Leading SEED SPOT’s social media and newsletter/communication presence
    • Setting, managing and executing on the goals, processes and outcomes of all of SEED SPOT’s communication channels at a cadence and frequency that establishes a strong brand-aligned presence in an increasingly crowded sector
    • Cultivating a trustworthy, authentic, and helpful voice that resonates with diverse individuals and audiences around the globe

30 Day Markers of Success: 

  • Established presence on the SEED SPOT team and throughout virtual communication channels
  • Content calendar and strategy built out for the remainder of FY22 (through June 30, 2022)
  • Consistent and established presence across social media, newsletter and marketing channels with approved consensus across SEED SPOT’s leadership team on style, cadence, brand representation and voice. 

Must-have proven traits: 

  • The eye and style of an experienced designer – pushing the brand forward while maintaining the connection to our core audience and entrepreneurs. No flat icons or simple text images please – let’s see how you can work your magic with Canva to elevate simple designs into exciting experiences! 
  • The communication skills of an effective product manager – this individual will be providing updates daily to SEED SPOT’s leadership team and programs team on progress towards goals, and is obsessed with hitting numbers as they relate to recruitment reach and conversion. 
  • A bias towards action and productivity – there’s a lot of content to be created and a lot of communication to be managed. This individual will have no shortage of content pieces to create and will always be working towards approvals to publish, post, create and move the needle on SEED SPOT’s marketing goals. The right person for this job is a self-starter who thrives when given the autonomy needed to drive progress and solve problems.

The Details

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategy

  • Develop a comprehensive annual marketing strategy to clearly define and achieve priority goals for SEED SPOT (see Key Performance Indicators)
  • Plan and schedule all email marketing content 
  • Create monthly social, email and blog content calendar
  • Develop and deploy paid media strategy
  • Align strategy and messaging to calendar of SEED SPOT programs, holidays, and current events

Partnership Management 

  • Manage Google Adwords program to ensure we are leveraging grant dollars to drive recruitment and conversion
  • Support key partnerships with awareness  campaigns. A representative sample of key partners may include Booz Allen Hamilton, Walmart Center for Racial Equity, Black Dollar Corp, Best Buy, and the fundedYoung Leaders of the Americas Initiative, funded by the US State DepartmentCollaborate with external partners and industry leaders to elevate the voice of our entrepreneurs and increase SEED SPOT’s brand awareness

Content Creation/Distribution

  • Produce email newsletters to segmented lists of stakeholders (e.g. alumni, entire database, mentors, etc)
  • Compose and schedule interactive social media posts per strategic calendar/schedule 
  • Produce well-framed and positioned blog posts 
  • Produce and manage collateral for program sales and partnerships
  • Identify new and diverse channels to distribute content 
  • Manage drip campaigns to increase lead capture and conversion
  • Submit applications for thought leadership opportunities (ie Conferences, workshops, etc.) 
  • Create shareable social media language for the SEED SPOT team and Board of Directors
  • Support team in crafting messages to ensure thought leadership through personal channels
  • Capture, manage and organize digital collateral such as photographs, videos, media stories, etc. 
  • Support the promotion of SEED SPOT job and intern opportunities
  • Design and oversee marketing campaigns in relation to entrepreneur recruitment, development, event promotion and others as relevant. 

Analytics and Reporting

  • Track, report and synthesize social media, newsletter, and website analytics weekly to team
  • Communicate key monthly shareables to Board of Directors and Team
  • Analyze entrepreneur sign-ups and applications to advance effective strategies to increase application rates. 

Events

  • Influence strategy for all events + manage all livestream and social posts around events
  • Event promotion leading up to program events and large scale events
  • Execute day-of social media content, including managing interns, volunteers and other team members producing content
  • Complete post-event email marketing follow ups, content sharing
  • Pre/during/post conferences, support team with promotion and support with lead follow-ups 
  • Serve as on-the-ground support at key events, opportunities
  • Develop strategy to ensure timely, relevant content related to real-time events and day of events (Ex. SOCAP, etc.)

Website and Branding

  • Refining value proposition and messaging in accordance with brand standards
  • Ensure website is up to date with most accurate information and programs
  • Point person for troubleshooting website content issues and urgent needs
  • Manage forms, drip campaigns, messaging, logos other dynamic website elements
  • Annually refresh and revisit brand guide and materials to ensure integrity 

Tools and Resource Management 

  • Active Campaign
  • Buffer, Metricool or other scheduling tools 
  • Social media platforms + passwords
  • Organize and maintain photos +video archives
  • Mange external partners + vendors in Salesforce
  • Google analytics + adwords
  • Marketing calendar +tracking tools 

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
