We are looking for an associate to join our winning team in Washington, DC or New York City.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will involve engagement with the Civitas team and the clients that we serve, providing the right candidate with direct exposure to big-picture policy and strategy development with some of the nation’s top political, policy, and thought leaders.

Some of our current and former clients include the Black Policy Institute, CityHealth, the Collaborative for Gender and Reproductive Equity, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions, Center for Secure and Modern Elections, Inseparable, National Council for Behavioral Health, the Pipeline Fund, the Trevor Project and more.

We want someone with a 360-degree view of today’s political and public policy landscape. The ideal candidate is highly versatile, with issue area or electoral campaign experience, as well as knowledge of the tools and tactics used to drive results. Experience on Capitol Hill, the White House or state legislatures preferred, as well as a background in candidate or issue/ballot campaigns, community organizing, coalition building and movement work.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidate will have the ability to:

  • Provide client team support, assisting with the creation and implementation of work plans, written documents, presentation materials and research
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed, manage project deadlines and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate and participate in internal and external client meetings and calls and contribute thought to the work
  • Maintain an up-to-the-minute understanding of relevant news, legislation, the political landscape, and other factors impacting client objectives
  • Proactively identify and flag opportunities and challenges for client leads
  • Work in partnership with organizations and build coalitions with varied and diverse stakeholders
  • Support the planning and execution of meetings and large-scale events, as well as run phone calls and client meetings when asked by supervisors
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minimum of two to four years of experience in program strategy and execution within a mix of the following fields: state or federal advocacy; state legislative, regulatory or executive branch;  congressional, White House, federal agencies; policy and political engagement; electoral campaigns.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, advocacy, and analytic skills, including the ability to explain complex issues in clear, persuasive terms.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Strong networking skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with individuals, organizations, and government agencies, as well as the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Proven ability to manage workload with short- and long-term projects, shifting priorities, and varied workflow.
  • Organized and able to multi-task, determine priorities, and follow through on responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer, web, and technology skills (particularly proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to assist in logistical planning for meetings, convenings, and conferences.
  • Passion for using work to make the world a better place, combined with a sense of humor.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

 

The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Civitas also offers opportunities for a bonus through an annual review process and an excellent benefits package.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will involve supporting the senior leadership of the firm and the clients that we serve, providing the right candidate with direct exposure to big-picture policy and strategy development with some of the nation’s top political, policy, and thought leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to Civitas team on project and client management.
  • Manage external communication (including written correspondence and phone calls) with partners, colleagues, and clients.
  • Prepare materials, including PowerPoints, agendas, and surveys for meetings and presentations.
  • Assist with new media, research, and writing.
  • Coordinate scheduling for client-related, internal, and external meetings.
  • Plan business travel and related arrangements.
  • Support with finance, invoicing, and general reporting activities.
  • Prepare the office in advance of meetings and clean up during/after meetings.
  • Collaborate with the support staff in other Civitas offices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • One to two years’ experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Professionalism, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Strong computer, web, and technology skills (particularly proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Experience with social media best practices.
  • Ability to multi-task, determine priorities, and follow through on responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for making the world a better place, combined with a sense of humor.

 

The salary range for this position is $45,000 – $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Civitas also offers opportunities for a bonus through an annual review process and an excellent benefits package.
