Innovations in Healthcare is a global network that amplifies the work of leading healthcare innovators – currently 74 and growing – who are driving significant improvements in cost, quality, and/or access to health services for vulnerable populations around the world. A core partner in the Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator at Duke (SEAD), Innovations in Healthcare avails numerous types of support to innovators to help bring their tested products and services to scale.
Our mission as an organization is to source, strengthen, study and scale promising healthcare innovations and thereby increase access to quality, affordable healthcare worldwide. We were co-founded by Duke Health, McKinsey & Company, and the World Economic Forum in 2011 and operate as a non-profit organization hosted by Duke University. We are funded by foundations, multinational corporations, and bi- and multilateral agencies.

About the Role:
The Senior Associate position is a permanent position on the Innovations in Healthcare Engagement Team. This role reports to the Assistant Director of Engagement and, in addition to working closely with members of the Engagement Team, collaborates with the full Innovations in Healthcare team located in the US and abroad. As described in the section below, the Senior Associate helps grow and strengthen the Innovations in Healthcare network, implements and elevates our engagement model, drives support for a portfolio of healthcare innovators, and manages a host of innovator-focused projects, programs, events, and relationships.
This position is a critical role for the Engagement Team and is best held by someone who understands the fundamentals of social innovation (e.g., impact measurement, systems thinking, cross-sector approaches) and is passionate about the role that social innovation is playing globally in health systems transformation.
Responsibilities include:
Network Management:
Lead the end-to-end process for the annual selection of new innovators who are seeking to join the Innovations in Healthcare network, including 1) finding and establishing global collaborators (i.e., corporates, investors, funders, and other key stakeholders) in order to locate, assess, and help select healthcare innovators, as well as 2) leading the multi-phase review period that culminates in the selection of a new cohort of 8-12 organizations. Develop and manage plans to complete deliverables associated with this annual activity.
Manage a portfolio of healthcare innovators, including 1) assessing the needs and gaps of these innovators as relates to scaling (in collaboration with other members of Innovations in Healthcare and SEAD teams), 2) triaging salient resources and developing activities and programs to address identified needs and gaps, and 3) building Innovations in Healthcare’s overall capabilities and metrics to help innovators achieve scale.
Manage international site visits and group meetings with healthcare innovators and develop and deliver learning experiences for innovators as part of these meetings.
Represent Innovations in Healthcare at conferences and events, including 1) developing sessions and side events that showcase the thought leadership of Innovations in Healthcare, 2) and identifying and pursuing relationships (based on institutional priorities and strategic opportunities) that can strengthen Innovations in Healthcare’s position and credibility.
Play a supporting role in managing the Innovations in Healthcare Annual Forum, including preparing innovators to attend and participate, developing content, identifying speakers, and facilitating and evaluating event processes.
Provide strategic input to inform the work of the Engagement Team, including advising the direction and evolution of our engagement model.
Business Development & Supporter Relations
Support projects that Innovations in Healthcare establishes to drive collaboration and partnership between our healthcare innovators and our corporate supporters (i.e., funders).
Contribute to the collaborative development of proposals and presentations to supporters and stakeholders.
Other
Lead the end-to-end process (from design through to deliverable) for specific emergent projects that can be complex and fast-moving and require strong communication, organization, and attention to detail, as well as skilled relationship-building and relationship management to work with internal and external stakeholders across Innovations in Healthcare and SEAD.
Work collaboratively with the other five Innovations in Healthcare teams (i.e., Research, Communications, East Africa, Finance & Operations, and Management), as well staff of the recently launched Global Health Innovation Center at Duke, on customary and emergent projects. Duties may include contributing written content to annual reports, ecosystem analyses, and/or the organization website.
Required Qualifications:
Education
Work requires analytical, communications, and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of bachelor’s degree program.
Experience
Work requires 3 years of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
Strongly prefer experience working with innovators and entrepreneurs
Strongly prefer experience in the health sector in emerging markets
