PEG Solar is looking for Sales and Operations Managers for Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. Positions will be based in Accra and Abidjan, respectively. Minimum commitment of 2 years is ideal. Details below.
Who we are
PEG was founded in 2013 as an asset financing company that uses mobile technology to provide consumer- financing solutions for solar and other products to low-income customers in West Africa. PEG’s management team has started several companies in Ghana, and their last company was acquired by a private equity firm in New York.
What we do
PEG sells solar home lighting systems on a “pay-per-use” basis, allowing customers to pay for them over time, and making the transition to cleaner energy much more affordable, especially to low-income users. All payments are made using mobile payment systems such as MTN Money and Tigo Cash.
Our products are distributed and sold through a network of local agents and outlets who are paid commission when customers send payments. A network of regional offices is responsible for recruiting and managing agents, stock management and local marketing. PEG is currently the only licensee of M-Kopa Solar, the market leader in Pay As You Go solar products.
The Positions:
1. Ghana Sales and Operations Manager
PEG is seeking a capable individual to step into a fast growing company and help us continue our rapid growth. This position will take on comprehensive management responsibilities across all areas of the country's operations, and will include managing hundreds of staff.
Responsibilities:
General management of the company's operations in Ghana
Responsibility for meeting sales targets and managing the country budget
Responsible for executing on strategic direction of company
Direct responsibility for sales and customer care
Reporting to CEO
At least 7 years experience in private sector, including leadership roles, with at least 3 years experience in a developing country
Experience managing large teams in Africa (experience in Ghana a big plus, but not necessary)
Strong experience in managing field sales teams towards aggressive targets
Specific experience managing sales teams focused on rural areas in Africa, or selling to rural communities a big plus
Strong stakeholder management, communication and critical thinking skills
Fluent in English (French a plus)
2. PEG Cote d’Ivoire Sales and Operations Manager
PEG will be expanding into Cote d’Ivoire in 2016, and is seeking a capable individual to turn a startup into the largest off grid solar company in the country. This person will initially be responsible for recruitment of a management team, leadership of that team to build and manage sales and customer service infrastructure, and initial and ongoing implementation of the PEG Cote d’Ivoire program.
Responsibilities:
Setup of PEG Cote d’Ivoire prior to launch
Legal setup of Cote d’Ivoire business and setup of office
Recruitment of Cote d’Ivoire management team (Customer Care, HR, Sales) and initial staff as needed
Setup of importation
Development of partnerships with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs)
Selection of initial service center locations and recruitment of sales staff to run them
Setup of office teams- call center, inventory, data and finance (data and finance supported from Accra)
Launch and ongoing leadership of PEG Cote d’Ivoire with support from Ghana HQ:
Grow sales team and hit sales targets
General management of company’s operations
Manage P+L of company
At least 5 years experience in private sector, including leadership roles, with at least 2 years experience
in a developing country
Experience managing teams of Africans
Experience selling to rural villagers in Africa, or experience managing sales agent networks in rural and
remote areas of Africa a big plus
Strong stakeholder management, communication and critical thinking skills
