About the role
As a senior member of our newly expanded Communications & Marketing team, the Associate Director of Marketing will oversee the global department’s strategic calendar of work, identify opportunities for and lead value-added campaigns, manage internal relationships with senior stakeholders and oversee the department’s operations. This role demands a strong strategic brand and operational vision, intelligent execution and resourcefulness to support the team to create world-class communications. This role is not just about directing work or managing, it’s also doing the work, getting into the challenge, coming up with ideas and potential solutions. This role will also manage a small team of direct reports.

This will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and partner with the Associate Creative Director. Accountabilities include:

  • Strategic Marketing & Planning: In partnership with the CMO and Creative Associate Director, lead annual communications planning, including aligning all organization-wide communications initiatives into a centrally managed calendar of activities, identifying opportunities to develop new communications campaigns in-line with department and organization objectives, managing department workflow, assigning team members to communications projects/campaigns, and ensuring projects are managed effectively.

  • Stakeholder & Relationship Management: Primary point of contact with senior stakeholders across the organization, including department heads, country leaders and chief executives. Work with these leaders to understand their communications needs and priorities over the year, identify where communications can play a role in amplifying their goals, and be the main point of contact for external teams and the communications team.

  • Department Operations: Oversee top-level department operations (10+ people), including establishing department-wide processes and systems, supporting budget development and YTD actuals oversight, developing and refining standardized communications tools (such as communications briefs, templates, etc.), managing contracts with major vendors, leading weekly team meetings, and more.

  • Campaign Management: As a seasoned brand marketer, this role will also lead flagship communications campaigns and projects alongside team members. These will range from organization-wide communications needs, to long-term brand strategy projects, and more.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in marketing and communications, such as a brand manager, marketing manager or strategic resource/operations manager in an in-house communications team or with a reputable brand or agency.
  • At least 4-6+ years as a Marketing Manager, managing and developing a small team of different disciplines (brand marketing manager, copywriter and insights and research associate).
  • Executional experience across a full range of communication channels–from traditional media to digital channels and CRM marketing.
  • Able to manage a department-wide budget, prioritize spending, allocate resources, and manage external vendors and large contracts.
  • Experience using market research and data to drive decision making, including understanding target audience and effective tactics to reach them.
  • Relational and collaboration skills: willingness to listen and integrate feedback, ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders and colleagues in different markets, without clashing.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn about a global communications context, not just U.S. or developed markets.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential matters and information with discretion.
  • Self reflective and aligned with Acumen values
  • Permanent work authorization in the U.S.

Location
Acumen’s New York City office
