Vice President, Marketing and Communications

Neimand Collaborative is a social impact marketing firm that helps our clients think, act, communicate and fundraise more effectively in order to have a greater social impact. Our process helps us apply our expertise to multiple sectors and issues. We identify goals, conduct research, and define the branding & messaging essential to the creation of practical marketing and fundraising strategies for our clients. As Neimand Collaborative’s VP, Marketing and Communication you are a valued strategist and leader on the senior team, key to the firm’s ability to conceive and implement research tied to message framework development to advance marketing, branding, public outreach campaigns, issues management, and related customer relationship engagement activities essential to deliver results for our clients. The VP, Marketing and Communications has a holistic understanding of the entire process and a strong background in three areas: marketing, communications management, and non-profit or agency leadership.


Job Responsibilities

Communications Strategy, Vision and Leadership:

  • Develop integrated communication strategies to advance our client’s effectiveness.
  • Partner with the Director, Social Impact Campaigns Implementation to inform and bolster the development of all client's communication materials, including annual reports, marketing collateral materials, and electronic communications.
  • Present, or oversee the presentation of final concepts, and obtain approvals for deliverables.
  • Identify challenges and emerging issues faced and work with Neimand’s leadership team and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions. Define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
  • Create marketing and public outreach strategies that will allow Neimand’s clients to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, external audiences from the media and key influencers to community groups.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by cultivating new relationships and connections that lead to future client engagements.

Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications function including budgeting, planning, and staff development.
  • Manage teams to support the development and execution of the communications and marketing strategies for the firm.
  • Maintaining an understanding of the overarching goals of the client while being driven by a complex timeline of tasks requires finesse as well as stress management and organizational skills.
  • Prioritize work and resources across engagements based on short- and long-term needs, establishing production schedules by collaborating with designers, copywriters, and production departments.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis.
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.

Creativity and Design:

  • Maintain a cohesive look and feel to support each project. Ensure that the visuals, messaging, and interactive elements of a project are properly aligned with research, strategy, and brand standards.
  • Have a strong grasp of what will work when branding a client or developing a marketing plan and understand what creative concept will play well in the market.
  • Work through the range of personalities, both in-house and with vendors, and harness teams together to produce a high-quality product for a client.
  • Invent new ideas for branding, messaging, and campaigns with strong design, smart copy, and a fresh approach.
  • Conduct brainstorming sessions with a broader creative team, maintaining strategic and creative thinking to develop innovative and actionable initiatives.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • 10 years of related experience: marketing, communications management, and non-profit or agency leadership.
  • Collaborating with strategists to obtain knowledge of the clients’ requirements.
  • A good storyteller.
  • Recognizes great copy, design, and fresh approaches to selling goods or services.
  • Works without supervision.
  • Expert communicator cool under pressure.
  • Has experience working with diverse staff, clients, and cultures.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work within tight deadlines, while maintaining a disciplined focus on organizational goals and measurable objectives.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all of Neimand Collaborative’s clients, as needed.
  • Flexible and adaptable style.
  • Positive attitude and proven success as a strong coach, mentor, team builder, and motivator.
  • Availability for some evening and weekend work.

The overall evaluation process will follow this anticipated outline:

  • Selected candidates will be asked to complete short answer questions.
  • Initial interview with the hiring manager, Ame Hellman.
  • Finalists will participate in a multi-team member group interview via videoconference. Candidate references will also be checked at this step.
  • Offer extended.
