The Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA)
is a global network working towards a just and waste-free world without
incineration. GAIA’s mission is to catalyze a global shift towards
environmental justice by strengthening grassroots social movements that
advance solutions to waste and pollution. We envision a just, zero waste
world built on respect for ecological limits and community rights,
where people are free from the burden of toxic pollution, and resources
are sustainably conserved, not burned or dumped.
THE ROLE
GAIA has grown rapidly from a $1.2
million organization to a nearly $7.5 million organization over the last
six years and has exciting growth opportunities on the horizon. The Institutional Giving Manager is
responsible for sustaining and advancing the current institutional grant
support to GAIA. This role manages and executes the full cycle of
GAIA’s institutional grant-seeking activities, including but not limited
to inquiry, proposal development and submission, reporting, and
renewals.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Manage a $5
million portfolio of current institutional funders for general support
and international and global programs, ensuring timely submission of all
materials needed to ensure successful receipt of funding
- Manage the
complete grant process for a diverse group of institutional funders,
including but not limited to identification, narrative and budget
development, submission, grant-fulfillment, reporting, and renewals
- Maintain awareness of and communicate all grant-related internal and external deadlines
- Maintain all documents, data, and files related to grants
- Collaborate
with finance team to execute award receipt and ensure compliance and
adherence to best practices within grant management
- Collaborate
with GAIA leadership, program leads, and development team to identify
additional institutional funding, with a primary emphasis on private
foundations but not to the exclusion of other similar sources of funding
- As primary
point of contact for currently active and new institutional funders,
steward relationships with foundation staff via email, phone, online
meetings, and the occasional in-person meeting; proactively support
program leads in their engagement with funders
- In collaboration with program leads, work directly with members on funding opportunities as needed
- In
partnership with other development staff, coordinate 1-2 other areas of
fundraising support for GAIA. This could include: developing materials
and strategies for individual donor outreach; or supporting capacity
building opportunities for member fundraising, including but not limited
to facilitating a fundraising workshop series, meeting one-on-one with
member fundraisers, and providing resources on best practices and
fundraising principles
- Work with development consultant(s) and other members of the development team
LOCATION, COMPENSATION, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Currently
some of our team is working hybrid, and others are working remotely.
GAIA is a highly collaborative environment and we will accept remote applicants, with a preference for someone based in San Francisco Bay Area or New York
City.
- Salary range, $75,000-95,000 depending on experience and location.
- This is a full-time position.
- Some domestic and possibly international travel will be required, likely at least one week per quarter.
