The Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) is a global network working towards a just and waste-free world without incineration. GAIA’s mission is to catalyze a global shift towards environmental justice by strengthening grassroots social movements that advance solutions to waste and pollution. We envision a just, zero waste world built on respect for ecological limits and community rights, where people are free from the burden of toxic pollution, and resources are sustainably conserved, not burned or dumped.

THE ROLE

GAIA has grown rapidly from a $1.2 million organization to a nearly $7.5 million organization over the last six years and has exciting growth opportunities on the horizon. The Institutional Giving Manager is responsible for sustaining and advancing the current institutional grant support to GAIA. This role manages and executes the full cycle of GAIA’s institutional grant-seeking activities, including but not limited to inquiry, proposal development and submission, reporting, and renewals.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Manage a $5 million portfolio of current institutional funders for general support and international and global programs, ensuring timely submission of all materials needed to ensure successful receipt of funding
  • Manage the complete grant process for a diverse group of institutional funders, including but not limited to identification, narrative and budget development, submission, grant-fulfillment, reporting, and renewals
  • Maintain awareness of and communicate all grant-related internal and external deadlines
  • Maintain all documents, data, and files related to grants
  • Collaborate with finance team to execute award receipt and ensure compliance and adherence to best practices within grant management
  • Collaborate with GAIA leadership, program leads, and development team to identify additional institutional funding, with a primary emphasis on private foundations but not to the exclusion of other similar sources of funding
  • As primary point of contact for currently active and new institutional funders, steward relationships with foundation staff via email, phone, online meetings, and the occasional in-person meeting; proactively support program leads in their engagement with funders
  • In collaboration with program leads, work directly with members on funding opportunities as needed
  • In partnership with other development staff, coordinate 1-2 other areas of fundraising support for GAIA. This could include: developing materials and strategies for individual donor outreach; or supporting capacity building opportunities for member fundraising, including but not limited to facilitating a fundraising workshop series, meeting one-on-one with member fundraisers, and providing resources on best practices and fundraising principles
  • Work with development consultant(s) and other members of the development team

LOCATION, COMPENSATION, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Currently some of our team is working hybrid, and others are working remotely. GAIA is a highly collaborative environment and we will accept remote applicants, with a preference for someone based in San Francisco Bay Area or New York City.
  • Salary range, $75,000-95,000 depending on experience and location.
  • This is a full-time position.
  • Some domestic and possibly international travel will be required, likely at least one week per quarter.
