THE ROLE
The Chief Executive Officer will chart BRITE’s strategic direction, champion its mission, and deliver operational excellence. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will lead a dedicated team, a robust network of early-stage startups, and an expanding national ecosystem of partners. This role demands both visionary leadership and disciplined execution.

Set and execute a bold strategic vision at regional and national scale
Serve as a trusted voice in energy innovation, entrepreneurship, and equitable growth
Cultivate alignment among startup founders, funders, and policymakers
Organizational Culture & Team Development
Foster a high-performing, inclusive team culture
Model emotionally intelligent leadership rooted in trust and accountability
Prioritize team development and mission alignment
External Engagement & Fundraising
Forge strong relationships with public, private, and philanthropic partners
Diversify revenue through grants, partnerships, and earned income
Communicate BRITE’s value and impact to regional and national stakeholders
Operational & Fiscal Oversight
Ensure financial health, drive performance, and mitigate risk
Optimize programs to support innovation at scale
Partner closely with the Board of Directors on governance and strategic priorities
THE CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a mission-driven executive with a proven record of growing organizations at the intersection of innovation, impact, and community. They are strategic yet hands-on, visionary yet pragmatic, able to turn complexity into clarity and opportunities into results.
They bring a deep understanding of the startup and innovation ecosystem, particularly in energy, climate tech, or advanced manufacturing. With a strong political acumen and fundraising skills, they can engage diverse audiences—from local mayors to federal agencies and venture capitalists. They are a connector. A listener. A builder. Someone who sees possibility where others see challenge and knows how to lead teams, build coalitions and engage communities toward a more equitable energy future.

Operator: demonstrating strong financial acumen and strategic planning skills for sustainable nonprofit growth.
Connector: gaining trust quickly across diverse stakeholders including funders, founders, and staff.

Communicator: speaking with authority, empathy, and clarity to multiple audiences.
QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years of senior leadership experience across nonprofit, public, or private sectors.
Background in energy, entrepreneurship, innovation, economic development, or advanced manufacturing preferred.
Experience managing cross-functional teams and working with boards.
Exceptional communicator—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business, public policy, engineering, or related field is a plus.
LOCATION & COMPENSATION
BRITE is based in Warren, Ohio. Residency or regular presence in Northeast Ohio is strongly preferred.
