The University of Virginia's Early Social Development Lab, under the direction of Dr. Amrisha Vaish, seeks applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position.

The position will involve working on a project funded by the John Templeton Foundation focusing on the early development of forgiveness and will also provide ample opportunity for developing an individual and creative program of research.

The Early Social Development Lab investigates the social, emotional, and moral development of children. In particular, we study the development of moral emotions (such as guilt, forgiveness, and gratitude), moral judgments, and prosocial behavior. We rely on several methods to answer our questions, including behavioral and interview studies as well as eye tracking and pupil dilation. The successful candidate will thus have the opportunity to profit from the lab's multi-method approach. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be primarily responsible for running a portion of the proposed research studies including overseeing and teaching the undergraduate research assistants who will work in the lab for course credit. This individual will also have an important role in analysis, writing, and dissemination.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in psychology or a closely related field by the appointment start date is required along with experience conducting research on prosocial behavior, emotional development, social cognition, or related topics in infants and/or children, though researchers in related areas with an interest in incorporating developmental approaches will also be considered.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/UVAJobs/details/Research-Associate-in-Psychology_R0041817?q=r0041817 and attach a cover letter, CV/resume, and contact information for three references (name, email address, telephone number, and address).

Please note that multiple documents can be uploaded in the box.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2022, but the position will remain open until filled.  The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.

This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
