Hello everyone,
We (Tal and Kelly Lynn) are working on a conceptual paper about the value of using observational methods that engage community members as observers to collect data in developmental science. The idea is that community members have special insights into the everyday contexts we want to understand and they can be meaningful partners in observing and describing those contexts, and this approach offers opportunities to give back to those communities at the same time. A one-page abstract describing these ideas a bit more is attached.
In this conceptual paper, we plan to showcase examples of research that has done something like this. One example is a study involving high schoolers who observed everyday conversations about academic cheating and integrity in their schools and social groups. We would love to include some examples from your studies if you have something along these lines (published or unpublished). If not, we also welcome any recommendations about authors or papers you have come across that do something related so we can reference them.
Best,
Tal Waltzer and Kelly Lynn Mulvey
