Dear SDTIC community,

As I'm sure most of you are aware, there has been massive political change within the U.S. over the last few weeks that still continues. This change also takes place within a global rise in right-wing populist parties and shift towards greater political polarization (https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2024/12/11/global-elections-in-2024-what-we-learned-in-a-year-of-political-disruption). Given how these changes affect many of us personally and professionally, SDTIC would like to provide an opportunity for members to discuss the current political changes and trends, both within the U.S. and the broader international community, and how they intersect with our research and SDTIC goals. Moreover, I know that there is a lot of uncertainty, sadness, and anger right now among many SDTIC members, and it can be helpful to have a place to come together to discuss these feelings and work towards solutions with your academic family.

With that in mind, I have created a short poll to assess interest and availability for a forum in the next few weeks. The poll will contain an area to write in topics/questions you would like to have the group discuss as well as a place to indicate any topics you personally would like to speak on. It should take less than 5 minutes to complete.

Please note that this won't be a formal meeting with a full agenda, but rather an opportunity for people to share their thoughts and perspectives, guided by your feedback on the poll. Some people may want to just listen (and perhaps weigh in if they have a thought) and others may have particular points or perspectives that they want to communicate to the group and discuss. All are welcome.

To allow SDTIC to move quickly on putting together this forum, please complete the attached poll by 11:59pm Eastern on WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 5th.
