Hi ASBGers

I have missed seeing you the last couple months but the ASBG has not been dormant! I'd like to let you know about a new connection for the ASBG that is terrific. I'm happy to announce that the we are now a "Related Organization" with Bootstrap Austin's Cause subgroup. The Cause subgroup is for those involved in social venture start-ups - including (of course!) social businesses, hybrid social businesses, and social ventures adopting a non-profit business model.

Its a bit of a long story, here an attempt to at an short version:  Martin Montero is a member of ASBG, Bootstrap and NetImpact. He has proposed a cogent continuum of support for for people interested in social entrepreneurship via the following organzations: ASBG, Bootstrap, Leadership Austin and NetImpact:

ASBG - This is the a place to join in discussion about social ventures, mostly with a Yunus emphasis - but we will look at many other topics relevant to social entrepreneurship as well during our 4th Monday meetings.
The ASBG is for those who want to be fed by social venture ideas and energized by talking with others about those ideas. We are big talkers and proud of it!
As it relates to Bootstrap
, ASBG holds the space for Yunus ideas as part of a larger discussion of many ideas from other sources - Conscious Capitalism and Gates for starters. (Thank you to Bijoy for your support around this.)

Bootstrap Cause subgroup: If you are implementing or launching an idea, this is for you. Its the place for those with actionable ideas, or ideas in action. If you want to DO SOMETHING, check it out!

Leadership Austin - Olga Pechnenko-Kopp, who leads the Cause Subgroup, is also working with Leadership Austin.  Olga says "In order to be accepted into any LA's program you have to have community service under your belt. I would say 30 % of the participants work in some kind of non profit organization and then the rest of them either have a non profit they volunteer at or they start a non profit after they graduate."  So if that describes you, and you want to learn more about connecting with Leadership Austin, (especially as it relates to social ventures) contact Olga from the Bootstrap SubGroup Cause page.

The Austin chapter of  Net Impact (http://www.netimpact.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=1931) is also working locally with several projects of interest to ASBG members, Martin and I will each have more to say about that in future posts.

So that's quite a bit of information. Many thanks to Martin Montero for his ideas and follow through.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. And check out the Bootstrap info! The fidgety among you will be totally jazzed!

best
Kala
