Peter, a question for you and everyone who'd like to join a
conversation about 2008 budget/funding scenarios.

From what I've heard about the NetSquared Conference, we can expect to
field questions from groups that might want to financial support the
development of either the mashup and/or the organization or initiative
that's created around it.

Which raises the question, what would we do if offered X amount of
funding? Or put another way, how would we respond if someone
approached and said, "I like what you're putting together and I want
to give you $5,000 (or $25,000, or $50,000) to make it happen. No
strings attached but I would like to know what you'd plan to do with
it."

The question is meant to help us prepare for in-person discussions at
NetSquared and Stockholm, and also to fill out the "Invitation to
Participate" section in the organizational plan with a preliminary
outline of a 2008 budget, IF the plan is robust enough to warrant one.

The idea isn't to push Social Actions into one particular direction or
another or to get ahead of other discussions that maybe should come
first (like hashing out respondes to Julius' "big questions") but at
the same if we have a chance to influence Social Actions' near-term
financial future we should have an idea of what that would look like.

Thanks in advance to everyone who participates in this discussion --

Christine

Christine,

I think the short answer to your budget question would go something like
this:

For the remainder of 2008, we would use the support to:
- provide a stipend to people on this google group who are prepared to
commit part-time or full-time to the project
- pay for support / hosting / build out of the open API
- hire an evangelist for the open API
- redesign the Social Actions website
- hold two face-to-face meet-ups for all people working part-time or
full-time on Social Actions
- pay for all of the legal / accounting stuff that no doubt needs to happen.

I suppose the $$ required per bullet point depends on the bounty offered...

All the best,
Peter
