Here's a quick email to say that I'm more or less out of commission
today. I have caught a bug that's knocked me over. It's demanding that
I get some rest ahead of next week's trip to the Bay Area (October 4th
to the 21st).
I'll be replying to emails here and there, but need to rest up :-(
A few milestones in the works:
- The Brattleboro Collective has implemented the first beta version of
RSSA (I'll share the details when I'm back on my feet)
- Britt is starting to write the new copy for Social Actions. We've
also made a first mock-up of the new homepage (Again, I'll share that
when I'm back on my feet).
- Joe and Eric are about to launch a WordPress plugin that draws on the
Social Actions API
- I have had a number of promising conversations in recent weeks that
may turn into full blown consultancies that will provide Social Actions
with the funds need to keep the operation running.
- My trip to the Bay Area includes a spot on a panel discussion
organized for Omidyar Network grantees (crazy) and live blogging from
SoCap08.
- In the coming weeks, I'll be presenting Social Actions to a number of
potential funders / consulting clients.
- If the opportunity presents itself while in SF, I'll pull together a
lunch similar to what Christine and I organized for NY and DC based
platforms.
Recap from the last two weeks of travel:
- Mobilize.org has offered us a very attractive fiscal sponsorship that
would involve only 3% commission and would include direct deposit for
staff, our own bank account, and the ability to receive checks made
payable to Social Actions. Mobilize.org's mission is quite congruent
with our own. Have a look at their website for more details. (I'll let
you know more about this arrangement in the coming days. (I told Maya
of Mobilize.org that we'll need to run the contract by our Google group
board of advisers before committing.)
- We are still waiting for Google to post our tech talk from 9/16 (we
have no reason to think they won't post it, but I'm starting to worry)
- Christine and I met a gazillion amazing contacts in NY and DC. We'll
be following up with them over the next several weeks
Funding:
- Our funding situation is not yet dire, but I am hoping that a few
consultancies will come together in the next 10 days
- I haven't started to promote the Giving Circle, but will do so
shortly. We have roughly $200 / per month with no outreach, which is a
good sign
All the best,
Peter
