Following last month's announcement <http://tinyurl.com/pbmoe> of the first
products to become WiMAX certified, the industry is all atwitter with
renewed excitement for the nascent technology. Though IEEE 802.16 is a few
years old on paper, all the building blocks are just now coming into place
for Fixed WiMAX installations to be rolled out. Plus Wired News reports
<http://www.wired.com/news/columns/0,70241-0.html?tw=wn_index_2> Mobile
WiMAX could be upon us later this year.

That said, it's time for So Cal Wireless Users to spend an evening
discussing WiMAX and what possibilities it brings to our unique mobile
environment. Jack Unger will drive this discussion with a presentation and
Q&A session on the flavors of WiMAX and where it fits in to a connected
society.

Please read on for the meeting announcement and join us this Thursday in
Pasadena.

Share and enjoy!

Presentation:

Jack Unger <http://www.ask-wi.com> tunes us in to the current state of the
IEEE 802.16 wireless technology known as WiMax: what it is, where it's
going, and what will it do when it gets there.

With the 2006 WiMAX summit
<http://www.upperside.fr/wimax2006/wimax2006intro.htm> happening right now
in Paris, and the first Fixed WiMAX products being certified just last
month, the upheaval has begun. Media outfits like to tout WiMAX as a Wi-Fi
killer. But can it really replace Wi-Fi in the coming years? This and more
questions will be raised. Let's try to provide some answers!
