I think the time is ripe to do it.
After spending a day in the desert last Saturday (see my post on Saturday),
I'm excited at the prospect.
I see this as a possible full weekend. Likely some place in the desert,
Southern California Central valley, South of Pahrump or other. I'd like to
find 2-3 locations where we would have line of sight 5-20 miles apart (or
more). Likely mountain tops or slopes that have decent roads. Camping, or
other lodging .
The goal would be to make successful temporary WiFi links between locations.
Test antennas, run various applications, IM, video streaming etc. This would
put to use the skills that we have learned at SOCALWUG, antenna aiming,
Fresnel, link budgets etc.
The weather in May would be perfect for this.

On an off topic unrelated note:
Do you like camping? Off roading? WiFi? I'm trying to find a few people with
4x4s to go on a Mojave Road trip. April 21-23rd. 2 nights (or an alternate
date). I did this trip twice last year. It's a great drive, considered 2 or
3 on a scale of 10 for difficulty. A stock SUV/pickup with 4x4 and good
clearance would do just fine (that's all I have). Beautiful views, old
forts, springs, dunes, petroglyphs are all there. I've always wanted to do
the "Car-to-Car Wireless Video Link" that was mentioned in Mike's book.
Please let me know off-list if you would like to go.
