Dear Martin,
We greatly appreciate all the support and communication we have
received from the kiteboarding community. I have attached a flyer
with the kite regulations for Sunset. The buoys were very recently
installed and may need to get adjusted for proper balast and distance
from shore, but the important rules remain:
Kiters should launch and land their kites between the checkered flags
posted currently between Broadway and 11th Street.
The buoys are positioned off the flags to aid in referencing where to
tack into shore and also to indicate the distance kiters should remain
off shore once launched.
We understand that one of the highlites of kitesurfing is wave riding,
but this will not be allowed at Sunset Beach during summer regulation.
It is just too dangerous for the general public with the given
limited space and crowd conditions.
The inside area between the buoys should NOT be used as a wave riding
zone, it is for going out and coming in only.
We are in the process of aquiring a PWC but it will likely be used
only for spot operations this summer. When fully implemented, this
PWC will be utilized for regulatory and rescue purposes.
Again, we appreciate the kiteboarders' proactive approach and we are
open to your input and advice for making the kiteboarding area more
user friendly and safe. You can always email me any information or
suggestions.
Sincerly,
Jason Young
