Since October SoCal Android and OCAndroid have been sharing our meeting
space. After much consideration and experimentation, and a flood of
email opinions, etc., we've come to the conclusion that sharing meeting
space isn't going to work. Each group has it's own style and
expectations regarding meetings, and each is entitled to pursue serving
their distinct groups.

So, tonight is the last meeting where we will be sharing space.
OCAndroid will be moving on to it's own space and times. They still
meet on the Wed. of the month that we do not, which is coincidently next
Wed. (03/07).

Furthermore, OCAndroid is also looking for a more general meeting space
as the Smart-Soft space is otherwise booked with user group meetings
most nights. If you know of someone or some company that can help them
out then please send me an email and I will pass it along.

To everyone & Jeffery,

Dear Jeffrey
  1. This is well written, thank you.
    1. A sincere compliment: I especially appreciate that it avoids unnecessary criticism.
  2. And again congratulations on your success with DECO.
  3. And thanks for the solicitation for additional meeting space for OCAndorid
Everyone, important corrections & additions:
  1. Yes, OCAndorid could use & is shopping for meeting space
    1. especially now since OCAndroid
      1. makes great use of & enjoys the Smart-Soft venue (so would want it at another time else something like it) and
      2. has grown to 5 active leaders with 1 to 2 meetings every week, including 4 Android Hack Nights/month
      3. plus the reasons Jeffrey mentioned.
    2. If you know of a possible Meeting space for OCAndroid, kindly post it in the standard spot for that: a thread on OCAndroid VENUES past+present+possible http://1.JotHere.com/LH2C7F or if you're not yet a member, just email me.
  2. Here now I will also not yet go into the reasons why the groups want to separate. Why? For me, due to the fact that I don't see a way that the reasons will likely be taken constructively here and OCAndroid (nor SoCalAndorid as best I know) does not yet have an alternative venue of same or better physical quality so has to (and will -- see next) continue to meet alongside SoCalAndroid.
  1. "tonight is the last meeting where we will be sharing space."
    1. Some may wish that. Indeed, the 5 active OCAndroid leaders unanimously agreed to do that do weeks ago if OCAndroid had an alternative meeting arrangement of same or better physical quality but
    2. "tonight is[ simply] the last" is incorrect --as far I and the venue owner Dave (CC'd here) are planning (when OCAndroid leaders last spoke with him (which was right after our last meeting 7 days ago, after everyone else left besides he and John and OCAndroid leaders Bill & I).
    3. Dave effectively said to me & OCLeader Bill that
      1. He likes OCAndroid, sees having OCAndroid at his venue as a benefit, not a drawback (the latest: OCAndroid leaders Bill & I just repaired the router (worked there to 4:30am doing it!); plus bringing in a constant flow of people);
      2. He disagrees with Jeffrey asking OCAndroid to leave their meetings. Rather,
      3. He says, if OCAndroid does not ask SoCalAndroid members if they want to have name tags (as the custom in SoCalAndroid is not have them) and doesn't make excessive noise (though he never has said they have), then SoCalAndroid should not ask OCAndroid to leave.
    4. So rather Dave & my plan is for OCAndroid to continue to meet as OCAndroid has been (with SoCalAndroid) until OCAndroid (or SoCalAndroid) finds a same or better meeting place & time; that's what we want.  Moreover, Dave now says he only wants 1 Android meeting per week at his venue, not more.
    5. And finding a venue for our growing group is not easy & takes time.
    6. So especially if wants the meetings separate, please use use that energy to find OCAndroid a better location so that will be possible.
    7. In the meantime, as venue owner Dave is fond of saying and has said for months, he sees OCAndorid & SoCalAndroid as his 2 kids and just expects them to work it out & get along.
  1. Yes, I and our other OCAndroid leaders are looking for more meeting arrangements otherwise, so if you can help, yes, it would be MUCH appreciated.
Sincerely, -Destiny, head of OCAndroid

/J
