So, we've not had a meeting since we had that bad experience a while
back with the other group. And eventually the space we used was no
longer available.

There is another local group that uses Meetup.com, has a meeting space,
and apparently is doing well, thought I think the leadership has changed
hands a few times. In general I don't really know anything about their
activities or discussions but I think they focused, or do focus, on
learning the basics. Anyone who knows more please feel free to chime in.

What I do believe is that this list and the people on it are still
interested Android and there is an opportunity for some really good
discussions and what not. And here's why:

o Android is huge. I have been using Android since the Android
Developer Challenge and I am the 1st to say I don't know everything.

o Because it is huge, in some ways it is too much, with regard to how
to best implement Android applications. Frequently my students, even
advanced students, get caught between using and Android feature or using
a Java feature to solve a problem. But even if we impose an artificial
constraint like: always defer to using Android API's to solve a problem
we run into many possibilities, compounded by past "best" practices and
fragmentation and deprecation of the API's.

o Patterns in Android are a bit iffy. There is some discussion in the
literature and at least 1 book I know of but I've not been really impressed.

o What is a robust and repeatable model for architecture a complex
Android app. This still remains a hug question.

o What is efficient and robust in Android and what has proven to not
be, despite the (Google) Android reference material and other literature?

So, each of these areas, and I've just named is still pretty open and I
think we have the membership that would be interested in exploring some
of them.

I think the in-person meetings of our group do not have much chance of
being resurrected, despite our having a kick-ass logo
(http://socalandroid.org) but I think there is an opportunity to share
substantive ideas and experiences.

What say yea?

if you mean this one, i have been to one meeting at peoplespace. attendance was less than 10 people.

we could start attending that meetup.

i have no idea what the other group is doing. i did find it on meetup a few months ago, but can't find it now. ...

mostly agree.
