Has anyone else noticed that some of the newer women's sports facilities
are starting to have showers for women with no privacy? Are women asking
for men's-style facilities? I'm not!

I remember conversations about this when I was growing up, because my
younger brother was inhibited about being nude around other guys when he
first got to junior high gym class. I had never heard of gang showers or
"short-leg inspection" (is that the term?) but when I did I was glad to
be female. I don't see why we (or the architects) need to deny all
differences between guys and girls.

And just why not? Why do you think that women are incapable of
surviving group showers? Ever been to a Y? I would guess not. :-)

Of course there are differences between guys and girls, but you
weren't referring to *joint* showers (guys and girls together),
now were you? What could you possibly find objectionable about
an all-female shower? Or are you suggesting that somehow men
are more able to survive group showers than women are?

Women come in all body shapes and sizes. None of us should
be ashamed of what we have (or don't have). I suspect a bit
of prudery on your part.

I've been in both.

Or modesty, or shyness, neither of which is shameful, or exclusive to
women. I can quite see that many people might have reservations about group
showers, especially if that's not what they are used to. What's the problem
with that? Whoever made a law saying that everyone should accept group
showers, and there's something wrong with them if they don't like them?

I didn't have required phys ed with showers in school, and was rather
startled when I first encountered group showers. Not because of shame, but
because I was used to the idea that no one stripped in public. Now, in my
experiences with public establishments, the women's shower room usually has
both public and private showers. I prefer to use the private ones, but I
certainly don't even blink at the women who use the others.

This reminds me of a funny story my girlfriend told me: when she was at
college she got lost in the gymnasium building and found herself in an
upper hallway of the men's locker room, looking straight down into the
men's shower room with twenty or so naked guys showering. Before that
she had not even known that guys have to shower in one big room.
Needless to say, she got out of there as fast as possible...

Also, women don't have to worry so much about dropping the soap in a
gang shower, like guys do.

This is a new thing? We had those in middle school, the required public
showers. (Great morale-builder for girls hitting puberty, I might add.) I
hadn't known there were places who offered private showers!
