Talking labels and talking tins used to be available. The big play button
was as you describe, but to record you had to hold down two smaller buttons
on either side of the big play one. They worked on two small cells as I
recall. I still have one and I'm sure they must be still about. You normally
got three for around 10 pounds. the recording time was quite short.
There were lots of this kind of thing around a few years ago, but many seem
now to go with the key fob ones or the more complex voice recorders.
I believe you might also find something like the pen friend useful as it
dds the ability to replay messages upon touching a label.
