First, I'd like to say that I admire and respect transgendered, transsexual, persons who cross-live, etc. -- each and every one of you.
I can remember feeling a gender variance as early as age 3 and yes, I have a fair amount of gender discomfort now at 46, and it causes significant problems at work sometimes. It comes and goes. Lately, it has waxed.
But at the same time, cross-living, HRT, and all of that just doesn't appeal to me. I'm glad it's "for you", but it's not "for me" :)
I am looking into alternatives. Also, I'd like to add, it's not fear primarily, it's just lack of interest. Again, if going to the store to shop for wigs and nylons works for you, I am delighted for you -- I just don't particularly want to.
My psychiatrist, who is one of the nation's leading authorities on gender dysphoria, recently told me (and this is a quote): "Not everyone with gender problems dresses up. They live their lives very *androgynously*. You'd enjoy finding out some of the creative ways that they have been able to resolve their gender issues. [Our job] is to find a way to express your femininity in a way that's comfortable for YOU".
Well, I trust my shrink with my life and he is very fond of me as a patient so he has no reason to guild the lily, so I thought I'd throw this out there to see what the "T community" have to say about the alternatives to cross-living, etc. in gender dysphoria, who does it and makes it work and perhaps who wasn't successful. Especially, I'd like to know what they do in terms of living their lives. Most importantly, please keep in mind I respect your decisions as much as you hopefully respect mine.
Thanks a lot, TGIF! Bless you all.
