well, time for sum sopport here.
id like to suggest to anyone thinking of taking hrt, PLEASE read up on
what can be expected, BEFORE begining. Then, you'll have sum idea of what
to expect.
The idea that bone structure will be altered by hrt is absurd.
some of us gain weight due to hormones and sum of us have sum fat
redistribution along more femine lines, but hips widening is ... probably
more than can be expected..
sorry that the educatipon on hormones on this newsgroup is mostly about,
mmmm personalitys,
not info
good luck in yr transition.. if that wat yr up to

For me, I started getting the more rounded hips in 3 to 4 months, though
not as much as a GG. Depends on your genetics and age.

I have been on hrt 2 years. I have wonderful developement on top and
very little in the hips. some but not a lot. The broader the shoulders,
and age you started HRT, the longer for apparent change. The hips have to
grow a lot to look in balance with the broader male shoulders.
Growth is a linear function but the shape is not. This is why it
takes 8 times as long to double breast size. The volume of a sphere is a
cube of the diameter; 2 times as wide times 2 times as tall times 2 times
as thick = 8 times the time to double the volume if the growth rate is
constant. This is why things seem to slow down the longer you have been on
therapy. Everything is growing just as fast but appears to slow down.
Small bumps on a flat chest show up easily. It it takes 2 months to get
the first inch of growth, it could take 16 months to get 2 inch of growth.
Hips and thighs do not have a flat surface to measure from. Get out your
tape measure and keep a diary or before and after pictures. Don't worry,
you will find putting weight on becomes very easy.
A TS friend said you will get the hangies first. This was her
description of the butt growing and hanging out before the hips and thighs
catch up.

So there is hope. Breasts are starting, and I've noticed "water"
retention, or is it really fat. My body weight ranges about the same as
yours and I understand we're about the same size. My voice using your
method is coming along fine -- I am passable now, especially around some
particularly full voiced women.

when does things start?.....it also depends on any other medications your
taking. When I was 15, a kidney problem put me on a drug(have no earthly
what the name was...that was 25 years ago) that also acted as a
testosterone suppressant(side effect). When I was 20(and still taking the
kidney medication), my new wife was not against the idea of me taking
'mones to add a few curves here and there so I started. Well, at 6' and
135# I wasn't the picture of masculinity... I looked more like
Twiggy..which is why I/we wanted a few curves. Within 9 months I had a
much improved figure.. the waist was down 2 inches to 26 and the hips out
almost 2 to 30. The bust also joined in and was out almost 2. All fine
for a budding young girl, but I was still a guy. The doctor told me when
I went in at 6 months(to talk to him about the breast growth I was
beginning to get concerned about and the fact that "it" wouldn't get hard
anymore) about the possible side effects he had discovered of the kidney
medication (a blood test for my "T: level confirmed this...this test had
never been done before to my knowledge) and recommended that I stop the
'mones as the level in my blood was very high..not due to the dosage he
had started me on...but the effect of the kidney med and its presence in
my system. As I continued on the Kidney medication, needless to say the
'mones had nothing to block their continued work all the way down the
sliding scale, and it was almost 3 months before sex returned to
"semi-normal" and I was filling a B cup at Christmas.

So....watch what else your taking as you begin if your not fully prepared
for the results and how fast they come....Jennifer

I'm 5'10", my waist is 32 inches and my hips are 41 inches, upto a few
years ago my waist was 29 inches...all naturally. I suppose that once I
get on hormones my waist will shrink again and my hips will get bigger.
I've only got about a 1/2 an inch of fat on the side at the moment, the
width is pretty much all bone. I hope that I should go from my hips being 3
inches wider than the waist as it is now, upto my hips being 6 or 7 inches
wider than my waist.

I wouldn't doubt that the diuretic you were put one was Spironolactone?
Yes, nothing to block. I've been on that for two months. The results
on that appendage so far are fine with me. At least I feel better, like
my brain is finally getting the right stuff. I did check, the next day
and I was retaining fluid. OK, still time to kick up the fitness
program or stop eating so bloody much food.

Except that I got this Thai cookbook and have been going through all the
fish recipes (except the deep fried and fried ones). It is wonderful.
I've really been into Southeast Asian foods lately. Just part of life.
If you don't try anything new....

I still need a lot of practice to be perfect. I am a perfectionist.
I've used Julie Haugh's method which is a combination of something she
figured out and Melanie Phillips. It takes about five minutes to get
the basics, then the rest is control and practice. Do you have a
microphone and a good tape deck? Or you can practice by observing
female newscasters, and female characters on TV shows or preferably a
good natural actress in a movie on tape so you can rewind and go over
and over it. Shadow their voices. Also turn the sound down and watch
mannerisms.

I'll let Julie take it from here. Julie?

From Jullie (my name, call me Katt), to Julie and Julia...sounds like the
Julie Family? Glad to be here, from the East Bay of San Francisco. Love,
Katt.
I know about how to talk like a woman, from the Book, Uninvited Dilemma,
available from the Seattle Gender Identity Clinic.

My hips have 9 inches greater circumferance. To measure the width I stood
in front of a mirror and used a bit of straight cardboard that's wider
than me, I used one edge as the start of the measure and marked on the
box where the thinest point on my waist is, which in my case is 1 1/2
inches above my navel, then I moved it to my hips and marked where the
largest width was on my hips which in my case is ~8 inches below the
navel, then I used a ruler to measure the difference. My waist appears
to be ~10 1/2 inches wide, and my hips appear to be ~13 1/2 inches wide.
Somone with 41 inch *wide* hips would not be able to fit through doorways.

It's a start anyway.
