Just needed to rant abt. yesterday's Price is Right. Did anyone see it? I was
in the middle of a marathon microbraiding session (ten hours! yow!) and the
braider had it on as "entertainment."
Anyway, you know how some of the women like to grab Bob Barker and kiss him and
coo over him, etc., and usualy, if they're young, skiny and pretty (like the
Barker's Beuties he'll allow it. Dirty old fart.
But yesterday, the last woman to come out of Constestant's Row was a BBW,
obviously overjoyed to get a chance at last to be onstage. She went over to
give Bob Barker a hug, and the freak warded her off saying something like "Hey,
I'm fragile, I'm fragile."
What a butt? Am I wrong in thinking that was rude and insensitive? He wasn't
fragile with the nymphets but when a BBW wanted to hug him, all of a sudden he
was made of porcelain? I asked my braider to change the channel after that.
Maybe I'm making a big deal out of othing, but it seemed as if he were singling
this woman out NOT to hug him because she was fat. It would have been a
different story if he'd allowed all to hug him or none to hug him.
If anyone saw yesterday's show and would like to disagree or agree, please do.
thanks all,
E
didn't see the show, but bob's pretty old...maybe he is pretty fragile.
"Happy Gilmore" notwithstanding.
Still a shame that they work people up like that and then get nervous when
someone other than a cutie wins.
Did anyone else ever notice that when the contestant gets the price exactly
and they win $100.00 the pretty girls have to take it out of his pants
pocket and everyone else he hands it to???? He is such a pig!!!!

Lemme get this straight - you think Barker is under some kind of OBLIGATION
to hug women he finds unattractive? Just because he hugs the ones he's
attracted to?
What is this, communism?

I didn't see the show, but I'm not about to condemn Bob Barker wholesale. I've
watched "The Price is Right" on and off for years, and I've seen him kiss and hug
plenty of big people.
I've also seen him "warn off" small, overly-enthusiastic guests. What was this
BBW's approach? He may have really been trying to fend off someone he thought may
accidentally harm him.
Give the guy a break. Instead of saying, "Oh no--you're too big to hug me," he
said, "I'm fragile," placing the emphasis on himself (according to your account).
Honestly, I've seen him kiss and hug plenty of BBWs, and I've seen him hug plenty
of big men. And I've seen him shy away from physically aggressive small people.
Perhaps this contenstant's enthusiasm truly alarmed him.
Off topic a little bit: "The Price is Right" is the most racially diverse show
I've seen on television. What does that say about American TV?

He's a game show host. Go figure. I've been on several game shows here
in New Zealand and never yet met or heard of a game show host who was a
nice guy.

He doesn't do this anymore. After his sexual harrassment suit several years
ago by one of his "beauties" he cleaned up his act some.

I was home(snow days from school) At first his response caught my attention,
but i have watched it in the past and he has said this to many other types of
people. Not just big ones, but mostly those who are just so excited and
jumping around a bit out of control. He is old and is very protective of being
injured accidentally.
One of the things I like about The price is Right is that they pick all
diferent kinds of people...young, old, hoosier, college kids, different
nationalities, black, white, hispanic, fat, thin, male, female, etc. It's
always a very diverse group of contestants.
I'd give Bob a break on this one.
If you want to see racially diverse, try watching the Springer show...
Coincidently, it's the highest rated daytime show on, now what does
THAT say about American TV!

He's always been that way. I saw some 'funny outtakes' show once, and a
black BBW tried to hug him and he ran all over the stage trying to avoid
her. If he'd done that to me, I'd have walked off the stage and left the
show. What a butthead he is.

I am a BIG fan of TPIR (The Price is Right) and the BBW's size had nothing to
do with it. I have been watching Bob for years and though someone on his staff
claimed harrassment, he treats the contestants very evenly no matter what
their size, race, age or gender. I don't defend his pesonal behavior and I
don't like the way he encourages Rod to diet but Rod is the one always dieting
and can stand up for himself if he needs to.
This particular BBW was particularly enthusiastic when she was called out of
the audience and her behavior was indicative of the type of contestant (thin
or fat) that would jump on him and rough him up (unintentionally of course).
He HAS been injured SEVERAL times over the years by over effusive contestants
of all sizes. They ususally jump on him to hug him and hang themselves around
his neck while hugging him, often injuring his back. He has a special fear of
Samoans. People from Samoa (men and women) have a tendency to pick him up
completely off the ground even though they are generally much shorter than he.
The lady in the outtake clips that chased him around the stage was Samoan and
he was truly frightened of being picked up and slung around. It had nothing to
do with her size.

Plus, he's got the oldest "Beauties" on television. Their crow's-feet
are visible in the close-ups. It may seem like a small thing, but at
least they aren't discarded when they hit 30.

Age and weight diverse too -- the contestants really are all kinds.
"The People's Court" does ok along these lines, too. But then, they're
in New York City, the original Melting Pot ;-)
