Alaska Zoo to build first elephant treadmill
ANCHORAGE (AP) — Alaska Zoo is to build what it believes to be
the world's first elephant treadmill as part of plans to enrich
its only elephant's life with better accommodation and activities.

At 9,120 pounds, Maggie could stand to lose some weight. Zoo
officials are talking with engineers and manufacturers about
building Maggie her very own exercise equipment.

"Elephants are just like people, they will be as lazy as they
can be and still eat," said zoo director Tex Edwards. (Related
site: Alaska Zoo)

Designing and building the first elephant treadmill could
cost between $150,000-$250,000, Edwards said. The zoo has
talked with mining experts because they know about heavy
loads, conveyers and belts.

"We hope to be the first zoo in the world with an elephant
treadmill," Edwards said.

This is stupid. The purpose of this ng is to allow a totally honest
exchange of opinion regarding the idea that fatness is good enough to
be "accepted". In order for the full flavor of insight and feeling to
come through, it is often necessary to use graphic images and
analogies.

Kindly do everyone a favour and fuck off.

Lady Veteran has done more to make fat acceptance synonymous with
boorness and impaired logic than anyone else around.

Where may I find the charter for this discussion board?

> Lady_Veteran
> - -----------------------------------

> - -Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the Devil

Does the charter for this discussion board specify tanks,
generals, raging blitzkreig, and stinking bodies as
appropriate topics?

If so, then isn't an elephant treadmill somewhat similar?
Tanks are heavy, and they ride on treads, sort of making them
like an elephant on a treadmill, I think. The analogy is
clear to me. Plus when elephants take a dump, it is
devilishly large and it stinks.

The zoo director, Ted Edwards, is the highest-ranking official
at the zoo, probably. That makes him similar to a general.

You're scolding me for posting stuff to this discussion
board that is eerily analogous to stuff you are posting.
It's almost as if the Rolling Stones prophesied about the
elephant treadmill someday. All praise the Magic Nose Goblin!

> - ------------------------------------------------

I agree they are cowards, but one can hardly call a coward
an idiot. The world is a very dangerous place. Identifying
yourself to your enemies is not smart. The real idiots are
people like you and me who dare to post articles that allow
us to be identified.

> - ---------------------------------------------

If you think people who post anonymously are idiots, are
you saying this "Unknown" person is an idiot? You are
helping him or her post anonymously there.

Anyway, back to the topic of discussion. I was simply wondering
if any fat acceptors would care to comment on the claim by
the zoo director, Ted Edwards:

> > "Elephants are just like people, they will be as lazy as they
> > can be and still eat," said zoo director Tex Edwards. (Related
> > site: Alaska Zoo)

Lady Veteran, do you think Tex Edwards, who holds a rank
analogous to general in the zoo hierarchy, spoke correctly
there? He implies Maggie the elephant is overweight because
she eats too much and doesn't exercise, and this makes her
"just like people."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Tex contradict several
key claims of fat acceptors? Namely:

1. Tex implies Maggie is "too" fat. Perhaps there is nothing
wrong with Maggie's size, and the real problem is the fatphobic
zoo folks who expect every elephant to be a size 2.

2. Blaming Maggie's size on her sloth and gluttony contradicts the
repeated claims of fat acceptors that they eat sensible portions
and exercise regularly. I think fat acceptors need to clue Tex in
to the latest NAAFA findings, that there are some people who
can eat just 600 kcal/day and still weigh 400 pounds. Perhaps Maggie
the elephant simply has a slow metabolism, or maybe she put on weight
because of the medicines they gave her.

Do you realize, Dan, that you failed to inject the subject of evolution in

Maggie the Elephant and Alaska Zoo director Tex Edwards are
both products of evolution. I injected both of them into
my post. Maggie weighs 9000 pounds, so I think that's a
sufficient injection. 9000 pounds of evolution right there.

I think Tex Edwards should overcome his sizism and embrace the
beauty of all elephants.

See Bobbi - If you'd just stop running and answer the question, the
