my oil painting failed miserably. i had attempted to use an underpainting
on french felt of a rose. the acrylic fixative became chalky and obscured the
lines of the watercolour i had done the day before. the oil paint was too
opaque for the subject.
i also inadvertantly used twenty year old linseed oil instead of turps. this
means my work is going to dry very glossy and that i wasted some very rare
very fine supplies by my mistake.
i was working on the oil as an exercise to keep my painterly skills intact.
the oil painting is a scratch canvas i work on when i am ill. that way i do
not waste large canvases on poor technique.
the watercolour i am half way finished painting is turning out to be lovely.
it is intended to be a gift for you, interlocked with these words:
if you cause me tears it is from light on eyes used to dim surrounds,
bleak vistas. the shadows you cast are like the touch of fallen rose
petals, quiet reminders of gentle flowers, sweet foretaste of perfumed
fruits.
only the watercolour shows my talent right now.
i feel like a failure. my eyes hurt. my heart aches. i am so very dull
these days with no celestial visitors or comic characters dropping in to chat
with me. maybe i shall know my mind from within health soon and it will once
again flower with power and perfumed promises.
i love you dearly sweet dear richard.
love, melynda
