has anyone ever made paddles out of fiber composites? i figure not all
paddles need to be made out of wood, leather and acrylic.
fiberglass/epoxy-resin composites are cheap, light-weight, thin, and
strong. and you can buy the materials in a lot of places (boating
stores, autobody type places). kevlar/epoxy-resin is much stronger and
more flexible (and yellow!), but last i heard, kevlar was mail-order
only and more expensive.
ya know, sometimes i wonder where these ideas come from.....

When fiberglass fials, the "fracture is "fuzzy" which might be a good
thing.
On the other hand, it also tends to "spray" short lengths of the glass
fiber when it fails, which is *definitely* a bad thing as they can work
into skin and cause various sorts of irritation.

At a party last night, a couple of friends and I were talking about the Toys
From Hell that we'd come across. The gentleman had made a "rubber hose" type
of thing out of what would otherwise have been cut into o-rings for airplanes
engines--a dense, plastic sort of material. Apparently, as his partner said,
it "made you see god" quite easily. She also mentioned a flogger made from the
plastic spaghetti stuff that girls make some sort of craft-projects out of,
that felt like one was being flayed alive. We decided it would make a fun
night, a show and tell of homemade implements of extreme sadism.

New to the world of submission? Check out http://members.aol.com/oldrope/ for
some thoughts for newcomers from those who've been there and decided to stick
around.
My own humble contribution to the arsenal of extreme sadism is the
"Foole Clip." These are wooden clothepins that have a pair of push-pins
facing each other to ensure a "non-slip grip." Adjust the pin points so
that they just barely project beyond the wood, not far enough to break
the skin. These things are *incredibly* cruel, and will have most folks
safewording in seconds. To make them more tolerable, put a wing bolt
through the clothespin handles. Tightening the bolt will then hold the
jaws apart. Loosening it will let them come closer together.
Another surprisingly cruel device is a simple loop of thin rubber hose,
with the ends braided into a handle. A friend made one for me as a
gift. It is easily carried in the pocket, with not much more bulk than
a large rubber band. Adam and Gillian have a more elaborate version of
the same concept which they call a "Loopy Johnny."

Not yet. <blush> But I've been taught how to work composites, including
mold making, captive foam, and lost foam methods. This was back in my model
airplane days, about 5 years ago, or so.

If you aren't too squeamish, kevlar can be gotten from wrecking yards. Air
bags aren't reusable, but they are recyclable. The downside to working
kevlar is that it's hell on tools; special shears are adviseable.
IIRC, kevlar by itself as a composite isn't ideal; for model airplane
applications, it was used in combination with carbon fiber and fiberglass,
since the kevlar composite by itself tends to shatter on impact.
Reinforcing with CF and skinning with lightweight fiberglass (or nylon or
wood) results in smoother, stronger, more dent resistant product. When
you've got a 10 pound missile moving at over 100 miles per hour, durability
is important.

Try heading over to the hardware store and get a coil of screen
spline. Basically, a roughly 1/8" rubber tube with ridges
lengthwise down the outside. A flogger made from this is truly
vicious.

Foole: Sure, Lynn. I would be *delighted* to provide you with a
custom-made set of Foole Clips for show & tell. I'll just need to take
a couple of measurements first to ah, ensure an exact fit. Meanwhile, I
need a place to put these neat velcro "tool hanger" straps I just bought
at the hardware store. Your wrists will do nicely.
For those who don't live close enough to Spokane for me to take their
nipple measurements, each clip requires one wooden clothespin, two push
pins, and one wing bolt for the fancy version. Drill a hole through
both of the handles and insert the wing bolt through the holes. Drill
holes slightly smaller than the push pins through the jaws, sandpaper
the jaws smooth to avoid splinters, add the push pins to the desired
depth, adjust the wing bolt for desired jaw spread, and you're all set.
Don't overdo the point depth. These things are *very* nasty even when
the points just barely protrude. I *don't* recommend using these on a
clothespin "zipper cord."
Your Humble Jester,

Actually a flame is a personal (ad hominem) attack. What ty wrote was a
comment on your behavior in this newsgroup... a perfectly on-target comment,
I might add. I'll admit that calling you an asshole may have been over the
edge. It called into disrepute an organ that many in this group use to
advantage. Maybe she should have called you a puss-filled syphilitic
canker. That would be approaching the outer edge of flaming.
But then a newcomer to newsgroups probably isn't aware of the subtle
distinctions in the meanings of words in the vocabularly that more
experienced users employ.

This got me thinking... I suspect that fiber composite material would
make a very unusual kind of paddle.
While it's very stiff, composites are also very light. And that means
that that a composite material paddle can't carry as much energy as a
more massive paddle, and (at the same impact velocity) won't displace
nearly as much of the target material as a higher-mass paddle. The
impact (energy transfer) would be very quick and surface-level, as
opposed to the more protracted and "deeper" impact profile of a
high-mass paddle.
So now (a) anyone want to spot-check my material science and/or physics,
and (b) care to speculate as to whether suface-level-impact equals
"stingier"?

Yes, I know. As do the people running autocollectors, etc. Most

1. Many people (especially in England, but also other places) pay by the
minute for their phone and internet connections. Unnecessarily long posts
(including but not limited to overly long .sigs and posts that are not
appropriately snipped) cost them unnecessary money.
2. ISPs (Internet Service Providers) have to store the extra text on their
servers; this can translate to additional costs for their customers. Yes,
one long .sig is only a small fraction of the total byte-count of Usenet,
but it does contribute. Also, consider that that one long .sig is being
transmitted and stored thousands of times, all over the world.
3. It is courteous to comply with accepted netiquette.
4. It reduces the likelihood that you will be killfiled on sight for being
clueless.
It's not an anti-John thing, it's an anti-beavis thing. (And you are not a
beavis for asking. You asked for information, you didn't just tell people

I receive no spam simply by "munging" my return e-mail address and spelling

effective way of preventing spam, I have found.
I have two hotmail accounts that I don't get spam on either (well, okay, two

OK, so speculate away...
Do surface-level impacts (flat and/or lightweight toys) feel "stingier"?
Do deeper-level impacts (from more massive toys) feel "thuddier"?

You must have a very serious allergy to spam. I take no steps at all to block
the stuff, and I get at most two or three spam emails a day, out of the three
or four hundred emails I get from participating in four mailing lists and this
newsgroup. I somehow have managed to live, despite this terrible burden.
>Why care about the long sig? I ask sincerely 'cause I don't get the problem.
Well, there are times when I use email to respond to a post rather than post it
on the group. Sometimes I'm giving out personal information, sometimes I'm
saying things that I think a person would be better able to "hear" privately.
John's pretty effectively prevented that. Not that I have a lot to say to him;
he hasn't revealed much of himself, nor has he presented us with any problem or

You can probably guess what to remove to reply... ^_^
OK, but remember, you asked!
And, honesty compels: I am speaking from relatively limited experience (read
ignorant as homemade dirt.)
But, since you asked and all, to me I think a "sting" occurs when you set off
the pain receptors in the skin and that's about all that fires, nueron wise. A
thud seems to happen when you also trigger pressure receptors in the skin, and
deeper in the muscles underneath (I assume there are pressure receptors in the
muscles, but I am not a medical type so could be wrong.)[1]
The neat thing about it all, though, to me, is that the words "sting" and
"thud" were so well chosen that you can sort of instinctively get it without
all the definitons or analysis.
Going further into MHO (YMMV,etc.) the stingy stuff seems to be a lot more
directly stimulating in an erotic sense, for me the thuddy stuff only works
when wrapped in enough trappings -- the situation justifies the thud, the thud
makes the situation more "real," or something, whereas the sting to me is often
a turn on in it's own right.
Does that make sense?
Now I tend to be more of the Stinger than the Stingee, usually, but I try to
remember that reaction (thud needs more situational justificaton, maybe, than
sting) when playing with slavegirl.
Would love to hear other thoughts on that...

Unfortunately, she got to thrashing around a bit and knocked the TENS

Depends on the person. I've met people that, er, physically enjoy using
normal, non-user-penatrative, strap-ons. I don't think it's common,
though. And, well, you can contort into SO many positions for
anal-receptive sex :) In general, the j-shaped ones would stimulate the
clitoris more than just penetration, since the pulling and pushing on the
longer end would, assuming the other end is, er, anchored, produce a
torqued rubbing motion.

Just a note. The sensations from a TENS unit are more "interesting" if
you place pads (trimming them to be smaller might be a good idea) on the
balls, and wrap the balls firmly (ace bandage, vet wrap, micropore tape,
that sort of thing) so that the balls can't shift and so the current
actually goes thru them, rather than mostly along the skin of the
scrotum.

Generally, that's true, but one ought keep in mind that composites are
engineered to be light. They can also be engineered to be haevy.

For any given cross section, of any materials, this will be true as long as
all the moving factors are the same, including (importantly) bounce. A soft
surface won't bounce as much as a had one, and as a result, the impact
force will be lower. Compare a rattan cane with a carbon fiber cane of the
same weight and diameter, and the rattan will impart less energy. IMO, even
a lighter CF cane's impact is harder than that of the rattan.
> The
> impact (energy transfer) would be very quick and surface-level, as

Yup. But, if the weight of the two implements were the same, the composite
would transfer more energy than a less rigid paddle.

I did the first adequately, I hope. As to the second? I don't think so.
Smaller area of impact, and higher relative mass appear to sting more. The
former, I believe, and IIRC my physics lessons, isn't precisely a surface
effect.

I get a much larger percentage of spam on the account I run

>There seems to be a strong adverse reaction, though, and if anybody can
>explain
>why without calling me an &%@#%$#&, I'd be actually interested in learning.
Because we've got a historical problem on this newsgroup and its
predecessor with people whose siglines grew way the hell out of
proportion to their messages. It's annoying to me, and costly to
many people who pay for their connection by the byte or by time
to have to download one line of original text with 20 or more lines
of .sig at the end. It affects all of us, insofar as the longer the posts
are, the more storage needs to be delegated for the newsgroups,
and this will either affect overall cost due to the hardware needed
or result in a faster expiry. While it's not much on a per-post basis,
it adds up over the thousands of posts made by all.
The grandmasterchampion of this "long-sig" game locally was a
twoll whose .sig file was well over 100 lines in length, and who usually
also managed to quote the entire message he was replying to.
It's an etiquette thing -- usenet protocols are that you should trim
messages when replying, avoid one-line responses most of the
time (it's OK if they're really cogent or funny, and less so if you're
just saying "me, too!") and keep your .sig line at a reasonable length.
The charter for SSBB does allow longer .sigs under specific conditions,
such as when you are including a PGP block, of maximum 20 lines. It
also specifies that commercial .sig line adverts are acceptable if the
.sig is smaller than the original and on-topic section of the body of the
post. Nevertheless, this is a section of the charter that we would probably
word more carefully, were we to write it again today[1], to specify that
.sigs should not be longer than 4-6 lines, per usual usenet conventions.
This amendment cannot be made, as there is no provision to alter
an existing charter, other than by RMgrouping a newsgroup and then
going through the whole charter process again. It is unlikely that
the news.groups mavens would be happy with us if we tried this.
[1] Statement based on previous consensus of threads on .sig
lengths, not on any decision made by the cabal [2]

John, honey, I do very much hope that you meant "pus-filled."
There are lots of places a kittycat will NOT go.
And I fifteenth the suggestion that whats-his-name adhere to
usenet convention, as suggested in the charter, and trim his
.sig file to a reasonable length.
It's an interesting evening, that's for sure. Last time we heckled the porn
movies, and did special voice overs and dialog additions and sound effects.
We floated one friend around in the spa like a bath toy (well, she did
squeak when squeezed), and I encouraged new friends to put their feet into
the middle while I played with their toes (Mmmmmm <g>). There were 11 girls
in the sling room at one point, which was a bit squishy but fun, and a queue
at the peephole in the door <g>. The indoor pool had a couple of inflatable
ride on pool toys, and so a butch splashing battle erupted at one point. The
cubicles were busy all night, and I amused myself by doing naked chinups on
the door frame, and trying to look very slutty and muscley all at once (a
bit hard to do that "rough trade" look without a flannelette shirt <g>). I'm
not taking the toy bag, but I think I have something in silicone that won't
