You know, I read this right after reading the ongoing debate between
Tobie and raven and others on the gunplay scene and I got chills. I
mean.....this is not a fucking game! But reading this, especially
with that stupid Uppercase/lowercase convention, makes it sound like
wiitwd is akin to a game of D&D. Then these people who have never met
face to face, never heard the other snore, never had to deal with
tampon wrappers in the bathroom, never had fights over who controls
the thermostat...these people then up and decide that they are going
to live together 24/7. So then you get posts like that one from the
unhappy young lady who is now doubting her "submissiveness".
Clue here...turn off the computer. Go out. Meet REAL people. See
what bdsm and D/s is like in REAL life. This is not a damn fairytale.
Bad shit happens.
*sigh* I know this is very unlike me, but that post just pushed some
of my buttons and I had to rant.

Stop it! I already sprayed Diet 7Up all over my keyboard on that
thread! And besides...if it was "sug girl", would it be whorepoon?

i have to echo a lot of what GypsyElf wrote. i started out "learning"
online. i lucked out and met a r/l Dom in DC who Mentored me and
pushed me to join the local group and take my interest to r/l.
taking it r/l was the scariest dang thing i have ever or will ever
do....and that is what a lot of others tell me keeps them from taking
it r/l, along with the fear of being "outed".
i still go online. tend to stay in the discussion type rooms, but do
occasionally go into others. i know a Pro Domme who ops in a cyber
room...and takes every opportunity to debunk bad info that floats
around.
besides....i met my r/l Master in an online room. He lived about 100
miles south of me...and now we are preparing to celebrate our one year
anniversary of 24/7 *s*.
`joy
Master's brat....He says to get over it *g*
[snip some very excellent words]
Gypsy.. I am curious, which net do you use, and which chatroom?
Lighten up guys. There are people out there at the other end of the
chats.

Share what you know. Learn what you don't.
Yep. I agree. But a lot of people don't have that option, or don't really feel
comfortable with it. As anyone can learn from visiting my website, I spend a
LOT of time in an online chatroom, where the ~vast~ majority of people have
little to no real life experience/knowledge.
But I've come to know these people, especially the women. And they are real
people, who are muddling along the best they can along with the rest of us.
Some of them are beyond any help I can offer.
But, in my own way, I provide what knowledge and help I can, day in and day out
for three years, all the while learning myself. I'm no expert, and I'll say
that to anyone I talk to, but I'll share everything I know, everything I think,
with anyone who wants to hear it.
I have often been the only voice of reason.
I have often been the place of last resort.
I have often been the shoulder a broken person wept on, and I have done what I
could to help them become less broken.
Yes, I use the stupid caps thing, because it's a convention that's damn hard to
break.
And I've seen tops and bottoms in person, and generally, in one way or another,
they make their status known. This is the way many use on the internet. Is it
more or less valid than any other? I don't know, and I think it's a silly thing
to fight about.
What it comes down to is people, individual hearts and souls. My heart has been
deeply touched with both joy and sadness by those who are, for one reason or
another, limited to the cyber environment.
I know, because of things that have happened, that I have touched others. This
is of deep importance to me, and is a potent honor that I do not take lightly.
A LOT of people, both in real life and in cyber, don't know what the hell
they're doing. A LOT of people think it ~is~
all about a game, all role-playing. And for
some people, that's what it is.
For others, wiitwd is a lot more than that.
All anyone can do is speak to ears that
will listen and provide the best example
they can.
This is what I try to do, and I hope I have
some success at it.
So, the purpose of this very long and very
heart felt rant is to say...Cyber isn't a joke,
there are real people there with real feelings who have valid experiences.
Please remember me the next time you (the general you) start ranting about how
there's nothing good in online chats.
I'm there, and I'm a good person, and I care, deeply, passionately. I have
learned
a lot in "cyber" that DOES hold true in
the real world. I have learned to separate
the wheat from the chaff. And I have passed on what I have learned as best I
can.
Real life is very, very important, and yes,
there is that which can be learned there
that one doesn't learn in cyber.
But there are real people who really do
do wiitwd in cyber, teaching, supporting,
and learning, always learning.
I am one of those people. And I am proud.

I could not agree more with this. I don't know if you remember, mady, but
you answered a post of mine about a month ago about subs getting groped at
a munch and said pretty much the same thing. Subsequently, I learned that
one of the young ladies in question had gained all of her "experience"
playing these games. Contrary to what she told me, her real life experience
was nonexistant. We ended things because "real life" D/s just didn't
measure up to her on-line fantasy.

Nothing wrong with letting off a little steam, especially when done so well.

Still being renovated.
I use the internet...in other words, an HTML chat room. I chat in the Hidden
Chamber in The Park
(www.the-park.com)
There are links from the Garden page of
my website. And thank you for the compliment. =)
Ah. I had some strange idea that they were pretty much the same thing. My bad.
I have chatted on IRC (and they're generally still referred to as channels).
Didn't like the environment as much as I like the net, but the place I chat in
is not
staggeringly different from IRC, IMO.
*shrug*
Just thought I'd note that I can't stand the AOL chats...Hate the design, and
find that
most of the chatting is less than inspiring.
*shrug again*
<snip stupid chat shit spam>
Jesus, ever heard of IRC? Excite.com certainly didn't invent the
online "collar". Take your spam and shove it up your rectum
immediately.
