Much attention has been paid to recent shootings in America; but the worst shooting in recent history has not taken place in America. Anders Brevik, a Norwegian conservative, opened fire on a youth political camp, killing over 90 people, most of them children. He did this out of the consideration that these people were against conservatism.
As should very well be Anders Brevik. If Norway had been a conservative country, he would have gotten the chair and endured some very painful travails while awaiting it. Instead he lives under noble, forgiving, liberal covenants where he, a mass child murderer, enjoys better accommodations than do many people who aren't crooks.
It is fine to enjoy liberal and forgiving covenants. That is what they are for. But taking advantage of them while having ill will to their makers is outrageous; and that is what we see in Anders Brevik. This person would not have lasted very long under conservatism. Under liberalism he could lead a fulfilling life. Instead he chose to dedicate his life to mass murder, of children, under phony and hypocritical considerations. Such a person does not deserve the Norwegian legal system. He deserves the legal system of Saudi Arabia. He deserves to die.
People who are kind and compassionate frequently do not know how to deal with people who are brutal. When the country is run by kind and compassionate people, the brutes like to attack the country. And what these brutes do not understand is that it is the kind and compassionate covenants that are the reason they get away with their behavior; and if the country had been run by people more like themselves their lives would be difficult, brutish and short.
I am a firm believer in meeting things at their level; and this certainly is the case for Anders Brevik. He does not deserve what he gets under the Norwegian legal system that he holds in contempt. He deserves to be dealt with like any brute: Through application of greater and smarter force. The forgiveness and goodwill of liberal covenants should be applied to people who have appreciation and respect for such things. If someone has contempt for such things, then he needs to be met at his level.
If a person wants a different system than what is in power, that is his right. What is not his right is using the current system to get away with things with which one would not get away if the system he wants were in power. I propose this: Give them what they want. Give them the treatment they would get from the system that they want in place.
Thus, a member of Taliban should be met with the same treatment with which Taliban treats its dissidents. A Nazi deserves to be met with the same treatment that Nazis afford their dissidents. A Stalinist deserves to be met with the same treatment which Stalin afforded his enemies. And a conservative who goes out shooting liberals should be treated the way that conservatives treat their mass murderers.
A person who hates Norwegian liberalism does not deserve the forgiveness and the compassion of Norwegian liberalism. He should be dealt with in the way that the conservative order he wants in place would treat him. A conservative order, such as say that of Alabama, would give Brevik a death sentence and have very nasty things done to him while he is awaiting his execution.
Since this is the order he wants in place, this is the order that he deserves.
