I haven't been reading newsgroups for a while. My second hip replacement
was Oct. 26; I'm home and doing well.

I'll head over to soc.retirement to see what is happening there. Maybe
Ollie has returned (once again) to stir up things.

I'll be over at SR in a few minutes :) I'm sure Ollie is lurking and
verbally responding to some of the posts.

The new rehab place was better than HealthSouth is some ways. The rehab
part was a joke - almost non-existent. But the care was great, the nursing
staff wonderful. I left a few days early as I didn't want Medicare paying
for something I was not getting. But I did appreciate the opportunity to
have a few extra days of care since I live alone in the wilderness. I
really was ready to go home on Sunday, but they don't do any discharges on
weekends. If I had left anyway, I would not have had the medications I
needed.

Both groups have become absolute cesspools of political waste. Nothing
of any interest in either of them. The only thing you'll see is the mass-
postings of the spammers and whackos.

Hi Nancy,

Olly came and went away in a huff yet again. She likes to scold and nobody
likes to be scolded, so there you go. Glad your hip went well and it is
good to see you posting again. Nantz posted that she is tired of
newsgroups, so she may be taking a little hiatus. We have been inundated
with cross posters for a while, so I finally had to acquaint myself with
Vista mail filters. They aren't perfect, but they help a lot. I just put
in rules to eliminate all posts from certain newsgroups, and for the most
part it works. We are mostly over in soc.retirement nowadays, but I check
in here every day to see if any of our regulars are back. sooo....Welcome
back!

Thanks, Evelyn. The home health care aide was here this morning so I had a
nice supervised shower. And friends are bringing in lunch in a few
minutes. I'm feeling quite well.

Wonderful! Hope you have a great day.

Here we are inundated with leaves. I live in a very tall forest, and this
time of year the leaf problem is unbelievable. Hubby is out with his new
toy a leaf pickup machine. It mulches them and blows them into a big
hopper. It is already starting to get quite cold here. Winter is just
around the corner.

Hi, Nancy,
I'm wondering how long it takes to fully recover from this surgery.
Were you walking just fine before you went in for your second surgery?
It sounds so major, like something that would take months to fully
heal. I've never talked with anyone personally about this operation so
I know little about it. I wish a speedy recovery for you. Frankly, I
don't know how you manage this considering you live alone. I don't
even want to think about how painful this sounds to me.

In my woodshop the other day I made a bullroarer. It's nothing more
than a small board with a hole drilled in one end and a string put
through it, about 3 or 4 feet long. When you spin it around and around
it makes a roaring sound. Absolutely useless piece of woodworking but
it was fun and satisfied a curiosity of mine about the Aboriginies and
this strange tool they use. Doesn't really sound like a bull though.
If you want to make one just drill a hole through one end of a 12"
ruler and use and old shoelace. The volume might surprise you.

As long as you and a few other decent human beings start a thread I
will probably respond. I find it strange that the so called religious
right are the ones who fill this ng with hate and filth. If they could
only understand the politics involved in the higher levels of whatever
religion they defend, they wouldn't be so gung ho.They know only what
they want to know and they are satisfied with that. Like a bunch of
Henny Penny's with tunnel vision. It's not God, it's politics and
money, lots of money.

Hey, glad to see you're doing well.

Ollie has been posting in alt.sixtyplus and some in alt.fifty-plus.friends.
They aren't on to her yet, of course, since she has been on her best
behavior and is that poor old decrepit lady so far. I have backed way off
my posting in either of those groups as they are also full of rancor--of
course most of it comes from people who will agree with Ollie--and I haven't
said a word about her true colors.

Glad to hear you are doing so well, Nancy. I have a friend who had the
surgery 2 weeks ago and she is doing really well too.

I am going to have knee joint replacement surgery in a couple of months. I
am not looking forward to it at all. When I had the last one done 3 years
ago my mother was still with me. Even though she was 90 she was able to
fix us both an easy meal most days. I had someone come in to do cleaning
and laundry and my sister went to the grocery for us. One of my sisters
said she will come and stay with me for a week or 2 this time but it takes a
lot longer than that to recover.

I think I have finally managed to create message rules to delete messages
from any of the nuts who posted to the cross-posted threads. I'm down to
just a few messages now. I tried subscribing to other newsgroup but there
are too many messages on it and I just don't have time to read all of them
or even to sort through them.

Oilie use the personal of an elderly Jewish woman who came over during
the Holocaust. Problem is, she gets her dates mixed up: she says her
family came over in 1925. I do believe, if memory serves, there was
no persecution of Jews by Weimar government in Germany at that time.
She also says the family settled in Nashville, Tennessee, but moved to
the north a year later in order to escape Segregation. Now, having
grown up in the South duing that time, let me say one thing over which
I will brook no dispute: Segregation in the South never affected the
Jews. In fact, Jews were among local political leaders during this
period. (Again, let me say to the kids lurking here: I will brook no
contradictory arugments. Your media-written flasehoods are an offense
to me, and I will put you on filter, where I will continue to scathe
you.)
No. Oily is, I am inclined to believe, a black woman who is not doing
a good job of posing, or a white woman who grew up reading Look
Magazine. Either way, she is a phony.

Hi Nantz,

I've had problems walking for a few years. I'm sure it will take at least
a year to fully recover. I haven't found the pain to be overwhelming at
all. The horrible bone-on-bone pain is gone immediately after surgery. I
don't take much Vicodin but it's there if I need it. Knee replacement is
supposed to be more painful than hip. I'm just so grateful for Medicare.
Now I have some hope to be able to return to somewhat of a normal life.

The right-wing religious nuts always seem to be the ones causing problems.
They attached themselves to that religion because they are promised
forgiveness no matter what they do - molest children, rob, pillage,
plunder - no problem because they are forgiven.

Another think that amazes me is the number of these nuts who are using the
welfare system themselve but want to execute anyone else using it. I have
this in my family. Of course I feel like it's my civic responsibility to
point out the hypocrisy.

I like your woodworking project.

This place is way too much for a leaf blower. We can use that on the roof
and on the walkways and driveway, but the lawn is too much. We have two
and a half acres here and a lot of trees.

Hubby bought this machine that he tows behind his lawn tractor, and it has a
separate motor and a hopper on wheels behind it. It cost $1400 and he
bought it last spring.

We had SOOOO many leaves we had no idea how we were going to get it all
cleaned up. We checked with a lawn service or two, and nobody wanted to do
it for anything remotely reasonable. Then we tried to rent the machine for
a day, and nobody had one to rent. So finally we figured that since we
weren't leaving here anytime soon, and the leaf problem recurs so quickly
even after you think you have picked them all up, that if you added up the
cost of cleanup for two seasons, it paid for the machine. So we sprung for
it. It is a joy.

So he cleaned the mess last spring, and again this fall several times
already. I think it may be nearly over with, but maybe one more time
before it gets snowy. Whatever is left can stay till next spring.

By the way, that machine can chop up branches up to 3" in thickness! So it
really pays off.

Good luck with your knee replacement, Lois. I'm able to do simple cooking
but still don't have much of an appetite. I keep the house straight but
won't worry too much about housekeeping for a week. I have a cleaning lady
but her husband has been very sick so I don't think I'll be seeing her for a
while. I let a friend board her little horse here; she comes over to feed
him every afternoon and checks on me, too. She will bring me anything I
need. One of Kevin's (son) former girlfriends lives not too far away.
When I need major grocery shopping, I email her my list and the next evening
she is here with the groceries; she won't even let me pay. I've always
done her tax returns for her no charge.

I also think Olly is who she says she is. Several years ago I corresponded
with her privately for a while. Even then she was obsessed about everyone
being anti-Semetic. She would tell me stories about alleged snubs and I

totally wrong about my past.
Actually, although we left Germany very early in Hitler's regime, but
the "holocaust' had already started- but was not as widespread - or

Rita - thanks so very much for your comments, regarding my experience in
Nashville, Tenn., in 1935,when black people were segregated and could
only sit in the back of the bus. THAT was an incredible shock for me,
since I had just come from Germany, where similar - and far, far worse -
sins were comitted against the jewish people, as we all know now.
BUT - you forgot to mention - the now hilarious - additional fact that I
picked myself up, and went straight to the back of the bus, to sit among

Nancy - yes, I do remember our correspondence. However, let me add that
I was never "possessed" about anti-semitism; it is all too real,
world-wide - also here in the U.S. - it is a fact of life. BUT - in
Germany's Hitler days, it was far more than a supposed "obsession" of
some jewish people - it was murderous - and we all know about the
holocaust- where 15 of my close relatives were killed. Am I obsessed??
Also, as so many of some other jewish people, I have, over the years run
into plenty of anti-semitism here - but then that is a different story;
it exists everywhere - just like other prejudices against other people
do exist -will never change - and that is not what I am obsessed about -
although, given my personal experience, under Hitler, in Germany, I must
confess that when I, personally, run into anti-semitism, it sends
shudders into my heart - and, I am sure, I over-react, but, given my
history, who wouldn't.
Nice to hear from you. since we corresponded, i have become an - - if

Hi folks. I used to post fairly regularly to this group until a few
years ago, when I became disenchanted with the way it was going. Too
much politics and other irrelevant postings. Plus so many of the old
timers seemed to have disappeared as well. Also, the group fell prey
to the usual perverted spammers, etc. I remember fondly many of the
original posters, such as Old Timer himself, Rita, Nantz, Nancy,
Ollie, et al. One of my favorites was Erika; remember her? She's been
gone a long time. Indeed I haven't even pulled up this group in a long
while. If you good old friends begin to post again, I'll certainly be
glad to participate as well, for what my input may be worth or not
worth ;-) Best wishes to you all!

The group has become a putrid cesspool, with very little content other
than political garbage and offtopic rambling. Might as well move on if
you're looking for intelligent conversation. It isn't here.

JimCo, my suggestion is that if you would like to see a discussion on some
subject, please do post about it, and call for comments. Many of the
regulars still do read here from time to time.

The person who made the above comment is one of the poisoners of this group.
He came to harass someone who posted here, and has remained, although no one
is interested in talking to him.

Hi,Jim, nice to see your name here. I too have become disenchanted
with the group since it has been filled with bigots. I wish to God
people would stop responding to them but they do and so the bigots are
made to feel welcome. This used to be a great group didn't it?

I do miss Erika and Daisy and a few others. Haven't heard from Russ
Weber in so long I figure he either gave up or died, his health wasn't
too good.

I was thinking about you the other day when I had a chemistry
question. I am just barely getting into copper art and applying a
patina and for this I need certain chemicals. Mind if I send you an
email?

Actually, I'd say the majority are ignorant, under-educated, unemployed,
lazy MSNBC-watching libtard communist-wannabes, whose only
accomplishments are slurping down the Koolaid that Obambi feeds them so
they will vote for him and his socialist cronies again.

Folks lose track of the funding of PR firms like Dick Armey's Freedom Works who
take millions and provide headliners, advertising, transportation and signs.

So many ssshats, so few killfiles

So true..way 2 many Dittoheads in here, emboldened by the daily
rantings of those wingnut hatemongers like Rush (Fatass) Limbaugh, Ann
(I'm a man) Coulter, Bill (Butthead) O'Reilly, Glenn (Brownshirt)
Beck, Hannity, Savage, Mancow, Palin, et al

Says the Asshole troll hypocrite who hangs out in religious
centric groups bashing religion... Says the same Asshole who
insults anyone for saying something (in non-politics groups) that
goes against his politics... Says the Asshole AOL user and Web TV
subscriber who has no clue how to copy pictures from his PC to
removable media (like a flash drive or CD), at the same time he
regularly insults others for being dumb...

I just tried to pull up Russ Weber's Senior Photo Page, which he
established for this group at its inceoption several years ago. To my
disappointment I discovered that it has been done away with. Too bad.
Russ put a lot of work into founding this group with good intentions,
and it has deteriorated so much recently. Perhaps we can get it back
on track again. (I hope that all is well with Russ himself.)
