Does anyone know what a 'Indenture of Settlement' is? Its mentioned in the
will of Elizabeth BAINBRIDGE, second wife of Rev. Luke TYERMAN (she died
1889 London, UK). Is it some sort of 'marriage agreement'? Where could I
obtain a copy of the original indenture? It is dated from June, 1854.

If anyone can help, drop me a line. Thanks.

Elizabeth

It was a legal document settling property on her, probably at
marriage. It protected her separate rights to the property. For
instance, her husband could not dispose of it without her permission,
and his creditors could not seize it for his debts.

Other U.K. researchers may be able to amplify this definition. I
don't know where the original might be on file. The county where she
lived?
