As Dennis Beauregard points out, Jack Verney was indeed the author of the recent
book "The Good Regiment" which examined
the 1663-1668 campaign by the Carignan-Salieres Regiment against the Iroquois. R
eviews of Verney's book indicate it has
a higher degree of accuracy and academic rigour than many of the earlier volumes
that looked at the Regiment. However, it
has to be remembered that Carignan-Salieres participated in one 5 year campaign
and that there were other Regiments that
deployed later for subsequent wars/campaigns. Rene Chartrand's works are cited b
y John Dulong as among the more comprehensive
looks at the French Army in north America.
