The current issue of "The Palatine Immigrant" (Vol XVIII, No. 2), March
1993, on pages 76-91, contains fascinating and heretofore unpublished
information on the illfated Dutch Ship, April, that arrived in
New Castle, Delaware, USA, June 1817. Briefly, 400 of its 1000
passengers died of typus before the ship left Dutch territory on the
island of Texel in the North Sea and subsequently 70 more died on
the transatlantic passage. The ship arrived with "600-700 Swiss
and Palatine emigrants" In 1991, Jan Alberts of Krommenie, The
Netherlands (whose wife is a descendant of the ship's captain Dirk
Cornelis De Groot) received an unsolicited letter from Werner
Fasolin, a teacher in the Swiss village of Wo"lflinswil, in
the Canton of Aargau in the north of Switzerland. Fasolin had
found a list of 640 Wo"lflinswil passengers that boarded the
ship at Texel. This specific article in "The Palatine Immigrant"
was submitted by Dr. Robert P. Swierenga, Professor of History,
Kent State University (Kent, OH USA) and to him we owe our gratitude
for this list.
The list has names written in French; e.g., Johan is "Jean" and
Jacob is "Jacques". It is not known how many of the fammilies
on the list actually survived the trip. What I've provided below
is a list of the surnames; the first name of the "husband", his age,
and number of family members are also given in the publication.
Many names are repeated and I've tried to include all examples, although
the list is NOT alphabetized.

Herein is the list:
