Leah?? NO
Lee - A?? NOPE
Lay - a?? NO
Lei?? Guess Again.
It's pronounced "Ledasha" Oh yes...you read it right. This child
attends a school in Livingston Parish, LA. Her mother is irate
because everyone is getting her name wrong. SO, if you see something
come across your desk like this please remember to pronounce it
correctly.
When the mother was asked about the pronunciation of the name, she
said "the dash don't be silent."
Lahyphena be Ledasha's twin sister.
No; dat be Lou-Iza Fizzlebritches, which she dey cuzzin on de mama
side, an' de dash doan be sed in huh name-p Lou-zah, she hep out at
de Food Stampas Offit, an she also hep out wif de Welfare-d.
Funny.
My in-laws live in Livingston Parish, so I forwarded it to them.
A freind who's a teacher had a student named 'Karantula' in her class once.
well - I'd have sworn that it is pronounced
"Leminusa"
(don't see an "a" in "Le" - do you?)
hmmm...also could be pronounced, I guess
"Lemin USA"
which is distinctly different from
"Apple USA"
"Plum USA"
or even
"Peach USA"
but what's really hilarious is that teeth gnashing, nail biting, and dog
kicking fury over the professional
Yankee ass whipping yall hillbillies are getting,
I can sense those blood pressures rising, those arteries clogging, those
aneurisms forming, and those blood vessels about to burst,
hopefully we'll have an epidemic of self destructing hillbillies with bodies
strewn all over the confederacy like a civil war battle
so yall keep on operating down in the sewer like the typical gutter and
trailer trash,jerry springer type hillbillies,
you're the best weapon democrats have

I don't see how this is grounds for the death penalty, affects
anyone's retirement or has any political significance.

Just about everyone's name is subject to rotten spelling, if one is born in
the US with an odd-lot spelling or if one is an American living in another
country. I know from experience. You just have to get over it. But you do
get to cry a little:-)

Ledasha's father is in prison for murder, Ladasha's mother is on
welfare and pays no social security, They are kinfolks of B Hussein
Yobama who might just be yo' next prez'dent. Contemplate that! and
have a nice day.
Sometimes it has its advantages. When I was in the service, I got
called for fewer details, it was easier for a lot of folks to skip my
name rather than to call it out.

I seem to recall several quite wealthy white people who gave their
children weird and quirky names.

and tell him how much they lke his posts
Examples, please? Examples that is of names that do not follow normal
pronunciation rules, or that do not have any etymology. I would like
to see some.
Ima Hogg certainly followed the pronunciation rules. Toci

How do you pronounce Cholmondeley? I'm not sure it matters though. Do
we have any reason to think Le-a actually exists?
Chumley. It's pronounced in English English- the queen's English. I
suspect Le-a does exist, and will hopefully delight 12 years of
teachers. The nearest I myself got as a student's name was a
McCleedia, however. Toci
Cholmondeley - Chumley
Featherstonehaugh - Fanshaw
Marjoribanks?
White guilt forced Woody Allen named a sone "Satchel" after a Negro
ball player named Satchel Paige.

I had a classmate in grade school named Johnye. It was pronounced with the
emphasis on the second syllable. She was a girl, white. But her mother came
from the South, and this was her second daughter, it was obvious the parents
wanted a boy. So they gave her a boy's name, trying to "feminize" it a
little with the pronunciation. She hated it.
BTW, the South comes up with some crazy names. One of my college roommates
married a man named C. E. Just initials. They didn't stand for anything.

Just like PV, which stands for absolutely nothing.
For Harry S Truman, the S stood for nothing. Toci
Marjoribanks?
Marshbanks, Marchbanks, Marchbank or Banks.

That's enough, now, Toci
We know how your name is pronounced, Le Dumbass!
You're still playing the role of an immature little snot, Earl. Grow

Like I said " PV, which stands for absolutely nothing."
pops is groveling for the attention and respect of total strangers.
(snicker)
I don't find this hard to believe at all. My first year of teaching I
had a student named Ronnikuku. Since I had phonics in the first and
second grade I pronounced it as it is written - Ron-ni-ku-ku. The
student became quite upset and informed me that it was pronounced Ro-
nee-kee-ya. Whatever. I've also had a Fartiscia (pronounced far-tish-
a) and a Shatizi (pronounced Shot-zee).
The best one I ever heard was spelled Syphillis pr Cee-phyllis. Its
another whole culture.I am glad I moved to France.

Well, even nothing beats being an "immature little snot," like you
are, Earl.
