Anita Traub, age 49, faces a total of 21 years in prison. In the first
case, she stole and cashed a certificate of deposit from 73-year-old
Carolyn Dolen, the mother of her close high school friend (class of
'64, Sandia High School, Albuquerque NM). She opened a credit card in
Dolen's name and ran up charges. Dolen had been living on interest
from the CD plus Social Security.
In the second case, Traub forged her employer's name, Stephanie Adams,
another high school classmate, and cashed checks made to Adam's real
estate appraisal business. Adams was almost financially ruined.
Prosecutors seek restitution of $37,463.
Dolen's money was returned to her and she did not have to pay the
credit card charges. Adams is still out approx $15,000, but she says
restitution is not her first priority. You may confirm this with Adams
at 505-292-9224. Dolen and Adams want long-term incarceration for
Traub.
Traub has a previous criminal record in Alamogordo, NM. She was
convicted there in 1992 for attempted fraud/hot checks written while
she was Juvenile Prosecutor in the District Attorney's office. She was
sentenced to 6 months in jail. She served 30 days and the balance was
suspended. Because Traub made restitution, this case was downgraded
from District to Magistrate's Court and she apparently was not left
with a felony conviction. She was suspended apparently due to a
variety of complaints connected to her practice by the Disciplinary
Committee of the State Supreme Court in 1991 about the time she was
fired by the Alamogordo DA's office, but she was not disbarred.
Dolen and Adams didn't know Traub had been suspended. Will Traub get
off with restitution alone? I hope not. Please ask Judge Smith to
give her the maximum term, keep her off the streets, and keep her from
hurting others.
Anita Traub is the niece of retired Judge Richard Traub, daughter of
the late attorney Ben Traub, sister of attorney Rosemary Traub. She is
well-versed in legal traditions. But in spite of that, she has behaved
as if she is above the law.
Please write Judge Woody Smith and ask that Traub be given maximum
incarceration term with no suspended sentence or "conditional
discharge" which would eventually allow for erasure of her felony
conviction and thus enable her to get another license, such as to sell
securities or insurance, to teach school, etc.
